[56701] "The Ellsworth American [Ellsworth, Maine]," 6 August 2024: "Francis Thompson Chalmers III of Seawall, Southwest Harbor, Maine passed on July 18, 2024, after a multi-year battle with Alzheimers Disease. He has gone home to be with his LORD and join his wife Sandra (Higgins) Chalmers, who passed less than a year ago after 58 years of marriage. He was born December 17, 1942, the son of Francis Jr. and Mildred (Phillips) Chalmers. Growing up in Seawall, he often remembered spending much of his childhood working with his step-grandfather Oscar Seavey and this is when he first started lobstering. After graduating from Pemetic High School, Frank went on to study forestry at UMaine. During that time, he spent two life-changing summers working for the Forest Service just outside of Jackson Hole, Wyo. After a few years of working for 'The Eastern' (Eastern Corporation) in Lincoln and living in Enfield, Maine, he returned to MDI with his young growing family. He returned to lobstering, first living in Bass Harbor, before settling into an old family home in Seawall. He continued lobstering the rest of his life, mostly in solitude without a helper, quietly working hard and providing for his family. His other passions were the small family farm, repairing and restoring antique tractors, and his hobby of working his own woodlot to always have plenty of firewood for the winter. Mum (Sandra) always called him an old soul, which could have come from the strong influences of his step-grandfather Oscar and his grandfather Frank Sr., or if he truly (as Mum would say) 'should have lived a hundred years ago.' He worked hard his whole life and instilled a strong work ethic in his children. Frank had a heart to serve and did for his family, his church, town and industry. He volunteered on various local boards and committees, and he served on the board of the Maine Lobstermens Assoc. and a marine advisory board."
