[13728] "The Daily Item [Sunbury, PA], 30 June 1948," p. 2: "Simon P. Haas, of Pitman R.D., died at 4:30 p. m. Tuesday in Ashland State Hospital after a three months' illness. He was 72 years of age and was a farmer. He had resided in the Pitman area all his life. Mr. Haas was born January 28, 1876, the son of William and Sarah Neugard Haas. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Emma Seiler Haas; a daughter, Mrs. Charles Shaeffer, of Pitman, and two sons, Harry Haas, Klingerstown R. D. and Lloyd Haas, Colonial Court, near Harrisburg; four brothers, William and Clarence Haas, Kulpmont, and Charles and Fred Haas, Helfenstein; three sisters, Mrs. Ralph Price, Kulpmont; Mrs. Jennie Herman and Mrs. Samuel Miller, both living; there are nine grandchildren and of Klingerstown R.D. Also surviving are four great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10 a. m. Saturday in the Lutheran and Reformed Church at Rough and Ready. Rev. Walter Boyer will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery." The 1880 census shows Simon Haas as a stepson, age 4, in the household of Josiah F. Geist (farmer and tanner, age 57) at Eldred, Schuylkill Co., PA - Josiah's wife is Sarah Geist (age 26).
