[6990] Alphonso of Burgundy was first the first king of Portugal (1139-85), who conquered Santarâem and Lisbon from the Muslims (1147) and secured Portuguese independence from Leon (1139). See notes for his mother. He refused homage to Alphonso VII of Castile-Leon and moved his seat of rule southward to Coimbra. This was during an era of much internal stress in the kingdom of Castile-Leon, along withg renewed Muslin challenges. For eleven years he used the title "Prince of Portugal, and then used the title "King" - although the papacy did not recognize this title until 1179. Alphonso I was agressive in his military leadership and in a major victory in 1139 reduced the Muslims of the Santarem area to tributary status. He also established ecclesiastical independence for the archdiosece of Braga, thus providing the kingdom with its own church hierarchy. Cf. Jirí Louda and Michael MacLagan, "Lines of Succession: Heraldry of the Royal Families of Europe, 2nd edition" (London, U.K.: Little, Brown and Company, 1999), tables 47, 114, 115.

Susannah m. (1) Stoffel Bower and (2) Jacob Hench (1761-1813). She had six children with Jacob Hench between 1792 and 1802 - he died in 1830. Stoffel Bower is also known as Christopher Bauer.
http://homepage.mac.com/feja66/tree/ps02/ps02_479.html offers:
Susannah and Jacob "had six children:
"Mary (Polly) Hench (1792-1869), married Peter Brackbill
"Nancy Hench (9/18/1794-11/25/1831), married Jacob Groninger, 1819
"John Hench (8/14/1796-4/14/1866) While a child, John moved with his parents from Perry County to Turbett Township in Juniata County. In 1824, he married Margaret Groninger, the daughter of Leonard Groninger, Jr. and Barbara May. They had nine children: Eliza Ann, Mary Jane, Martha Eleanor, John H., Stewart Turbett, Caroline E., Cyrus M., Margaretha B., and Sarah Malinda Hench. John died on April 14, 1866, and Margaret on March 28, 1893. They are buried in the Church Hill Cemetery.
"Zachariah Rice Hench (6/10/1798-5/19/1877) Zachariah was a carpenter and building contractor. With the help of his brothers, he built many large barns and bridges throughout the area, which were widely recognized for their craftsmanship and quality of construction. During the construction of a bridge across the Juniata River at Lewistown, a sudden flood destroyed the structure, washing it down the river. His losses were so great that Zachariah was never again able to bid on such large contracts. He married Eleanor Stevens in 1820.
"Peter Hench (7/27/1800-?) Peter operated a fulling mill at the foot of Tuscarora Mountain in south- western Turbett Township. Around 1830, he enlarged the mill and converted it into a foundry, for the manufacturing of farm implements. Peter was first married to Mary Stewart, who died giving birth to their child. He later married Sidney Strouse, daughter of Philip Strouse, and the widow of John McConnell.
"Abigail Hench (1802-1876), Married Armstrong Calhoun, 1827
"Johann Jacob Hench died on May 6, 1813, and was buried in the Church Hill Cemetery. Susannah later married Christopher Bauer. After Christopher's death, she returned to live among her children in Juniata County until she died, on Janury 12, 1856."
"Flickinger Family History," 1927, reports "Susan was six in 1777 when Gen. Washington, calling at their home in Chester County, Pa., lifted her in an appreciative way to his knee."
[41005] The unverified Chapaprieta Family Tree in Ancestry.com in 2016 offers: "Henry/Heinriech Shepler was born in 1715 in Rendsburg, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. He had five sons and one daughter with Catherine Barbara Rieth. He died on November 3, 1781, in Tulpehocken, Pennsylvania, at the age of 66."

[20757] Find A Grave memorial 14775428 offers: "Penelope was the daughter of the 3rd Earl of Southampton and Elizabeth Vernon. She married William, 2nd Baron Spencer in 1617. The couple had thirteen children. Penelope and William, 2nd Baron Spencer were invited to live in the mansion at Althorp by William's father, Robert 1st Baron Spencer, of Wormleighton, after the death of his wife Margaret. He handed over the day-to-day administration of the housekeeping to Penelope. She introduced and implemented a more comprehensive, precise, and accessible bookkeeping system at Althorp. Other introductions by Penelope were forks, to be used with knives at meal times and an installation of a belly pulley in her bedroom. She also helped William make structural plans to enlarge Althorp. With the help of Penelope, Althorp was running more efficiently and effectively. Penelope became distraught over the death of her husband in 1636. She refused several proposals and remained a widow for thirty-one years. In honor of the her husband, the man she truly loved, she erected a grand monument of black and white marble in Brington church."
