[60913] Constance's obituary: "San Antonio, Texas and Salibury Cove - Constance 'Connee' Tryphena Hanscom Jellison, 'Junior Naturalist,' passed away June 13, 2012, in San Antonio, Texas. She was born Feb. 17, 1932, in Bar Harbor, the daughter of Albert R. Hanscom Jr. and Dorothy May Bragg. She attended local schools and graduated from Bar Harbor High, Class of 1950, where she lettered in debate. During her school years she worked as a housekeeper for the Brown family in a house behind the Malvern Hotel. While living there the fire of '47 was closing in on Bar Harbor and as the town was being evacuated she was told she could pack one suitcase of her belongings before the family escaped to Bar Island. During that time she kept in touch with her classmate that was volunteering to help fight the fire. That classmate, who she had met on the school bus one morning when he asked her if he could help her carry her books, was to become her future husband. Jeremiah Jellison and Connee were married Jan. 20, 1951. They moved into his family homestead, Fair Eden Farm at the top of Hadley's Point Road and raised a family of five children. In 1960, they built a new house just down the road in Salisbury Cove on land that Jere's Grandfather 'Fount' had given them as a wedding gift. This new home in the clearing, as Connee often referred to it, was the inspiration for her newspaper column 'Junior Naturalist,' which she wrote for many years when she worked for the Bar Harbor Times. Her column and observations in the clearing inspired her children and a large following of junior and senior naturalists. Over the next 40 years that Connee lived in the clearing she taught herself to paint numerous landscapes of the Island and became an avid writer and author of books about the history of Hancock County, Amherst and the Union River. One of her fondest hobbies was genealogy and she helped many families trace their roots through a column she wrote for the Bangor Daily News called 'Family Ties.' Of all her hobbies and interests she was deeply focused on the Daughters of the American Revolution. She organized the first chapter on the Island and went on to serve as state chairman, secretary and chaplain. She was also very active in the Children of the American Revolution. She was a member of the Church of Our Father and taught Sunday school for 10 years. Connee was predeceased by her parents; sisters, Hazel and Kathleen; brothers, Dale, Walter and Raymond; husband, Jeremiah; and daughter, Dorothy. She is survived by sons, John and Jeremiah Jr.; daughters, Debra and Dawn; a sister, Ada Hatch; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren."
