[14218] Her father had become friendly with the Rev. Mr. Lyford aboard the Ship Fortune in 1621 and wanted him to baptise Magdalene. But the Puritan leaders in Plymouth Colony refused, as Hilton was an Anglican. Lyford baptised her privately and was driven from the colony ("Colonial Period in American History," Vol. I, pp. 276-77, by Andrews). This led her father and the pastor to settle on a pine covered point 90 miles north of the Plymouth Bay Colony, founding Dover. She m.
