Conrad m. Ursula Barbara _____. Conrad had a brother, George Ludwig Ritzman (b. 23 April 1674, d. 2 Dec 1738) per parish records. LDS Church IGI reports his full name is Hans Conrad Ritzman and his wife is Ursula Barbara Schneider (daughter of Andreas Schneider). See http://members.aol.com/rogercubs/ritzman.htm which reports: "Source: 'Evangelische Kirche Oberowisheim, Kirchenbuch 1577-1962' (LDS microfilm #1192078 for Oberowisheim/Unterowisheim/Neuenburg, Baden, Germany)."

Roger Cramer of Peoria, AZ - http://members.aol.com/rogercubs - shared an email from Lee Ritzman in 2004: "We have a common ancestor on your chart. My 6th greatgrandfather is #2 on your list; Conrad Ritzman,just under Unknown Ritzman. My source was from the actual church record books in Oberoewisheim, Baden, Germany. My father, his cousin, and the minister were there with me. My father's cousin, now deceased, was still living within 2 km. of the church. Although the old script is hard to read, she and the minister were pretty good at it. Most of the dates agree with yours. Any discrepancies are, I'm sure, due to blurred ink and inability to read the old script. Hans Conrad Ritzman and Ursula Barbara Schneider were married 26 Nov 1667. They had 5 children - all boys: Johannes, Friedrich, Hans Friderich, Jorg Ludwig, and Hans Conrad. Johannes was born 20 Aug 1668, married Anna Barbara Benz on 29 Jan 1693, and died 6 Nov 1723. It appears that his son, Johann Jacob Ritzman was your ancestor that emigrated to America. Jorg Ludwig Ritzman is my ancestor. His family stayed in the same town and neighboring Unteroewisheim for several generations until my grandfather came to America in the 1880s. The other three boys died before reaching maturity. We were able to find a marriage date (26 Nov 1667) and burial date (26 Oct 1676) for Hans Conrad Ritzman. There was also a notation that he was from Volkheim, Canton Zurich, Switzerland. This is the location that I mentioned in my previous e-mail was actually Volken, not Volkheim. I have no further information on Hans Conrad Ritzman other than general things about the Ritzman family name and crest that I found in Switzerland. Ursula Barbara Schneider's father was named Andreas. He was deceased before his daughters wedding in 1667, but we did not have time to research his line any more. You can find Unteroewisheim and Oberoewisheim if you go to Mapquest.com and look up the map of Germany and the city of Kraichtal. About 30 years ago, they consolidated several small towns in the Kraich valley under one name. Each still shows up on the map with its original name as an area. You can also find Volken if you go to the Switzerland map and enter the name of Volken as the city. It is only a half mile from the Rhein River which generally separates Germany from Switzerland in that area.

Ancestry.com suggests the meaning of the surname: "German and Swiss German (Ritzmann): variant of Ritz, with the addition of man man (see Richard).
