[59488] Shirley served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
[44872] Bertha is daughter of Robert Alexander Clark (1832-1905) & Matilda McNeal Clark (1837-1878). "The Perry County Times [New Bloomfield, PA], 11 February 1932," p. 5: "Mrs. Bertha Loy, aged 61 years, 9 months and 25 days, widow of Poor Director E. R. Loy, died Tuesday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Leo Rice, of Stony Point, of heart and kidney trouble, her illness having begun in December and she was bedfast since January 2. Her health had been failing her since her husband's death on November 18, 1929. A few months ago she suffered a severe attack from which she was bedfast for some time. Mrs. Loy was a daughter of Robert Clark and wife, nee Miss McNeal, and was born at the Clark homestead at St. Paul's Church. Her married life was spent at the Loy homestead at Fort Robinson, until since Mr. Loy's death, when she visited among her children at the homestead and nearby vicinities. She was a lifelong member of the Center Presbyterian church and Sunday School and a charter member of the Woman's Missionary Society. She was a member of the Pochahontas Club and was an active worker in these organizations and all other community affairs. A christian woman whose influence for good was great and her unselfish devotion to the best interests of her family, church and the community won the greatest respect from a very large circle of friends. A good neighbor who always lent a helping hand willingly wherever help was needed. Surviving her are her children, Annabel, Mrs. Wm. Morrison, of Andcrsonburg; Robert, of Cincinnati, O.; an employee of the Vacuum Oil Company; Hugh, on the home farm, the Loy homestead; Helen, Mrs. Leo Rice, of Stony Point; Donald a member of the Regular Army, who was stationed at Hawaii over a year, having just been transferred to March Field, Cal., the latter part of January; 5 grandchildren, two brothers, David and Maurice Clark, of Santa Monica. Cal ami a sister, Mrs. Mary McNeal, of Salt Lake City, Utah, the latter three being the only survivors of the Clark family of five brothers and sisters and two half bothers. Funeral services will be held at her late home at Fort Robinson, Friday morning at 10 a. m., her pastor, Rev. Carl Ettlich, officiating. Burial will be made in the Center Cemetery."
