"Bangor Daily News [Bangos, Maine], 5 April 2020": "Bucksport and Orland - Carolyn M. Gray went home to be with her Lord and Savior on March 11, 2020, at her home in Bucksport, with those that loved her by her side. Carolyn was born December 27, 1936, in Medford, Maine, to the late Lewis L. and Florence (Brockway) Gray.
She was very active in the Civil Rights movement, marched with Martin Luther King several times, was present at the 'I Have a Dream' speech, and was thrown in jail twice in the 60's for her passion for helping those who were without rights. Carolyn taught at a Navajo Reservation in Arizona, helped deliver babies in a poverty-stricken area in the Everglades, taught at Perkins School for the Blind in Massachusetts, taught at Montreal West School for blind children, walked a group of children who were without sight down and out of the Grand Canyon, loved exploring the country, was a foster mom to many children, and had a daycare at her home in Orland. Each child became "her" child. Carolyn was an amazing cook, loved the outdoors, remained adventurous at the age of 80 she rode in an open cockpit biplane and had a passion for loving and helping people. Carolyn is survived by her daughter, Autumn (Gray) Boutin and grandchildren Hannah, John, Bella, and Logan. Also honorary daughter Nicole Rowls, honorary grandchildren Marcy and Carolyn McAllian and honorary 'little sister' Jenny Jordan, and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews, both birth and honorary, that were very important to her. She loved all children with a passion, and they brought her great and marvelous joy. She is greatly missed by all those that love and cared for her. Carolyn has a sister, Mary Deans, and in addition to her parents, Carolyn was predeceased by her brothers, Leon, Joseph, Alan, and Donald Gray, and sisters, Harriet Marston, Irene Bowden, and Jean Joy. A special thanks to all those that helped and loved her during her end days and those that came to visit from near and far and or pray for her. Each of you made a special and important impact on Carolyn. Carolyn asked Jesus into her life in 1946, and her favorite Bible verse, Isaiah 26:4, 'Trust in the Lord forever!' helped her throughout her life, A Celebration of Life will be held at Bucksport Bible Chruch, Bucksport Maine, where Carolyn was a member for the last 40 years, at a future date."
