[1587] Maud was widow of Emperor Henry V at the time of her marriage to Count Geoffrey ca. 1128. "From the start she despised her adolescent second husband as her social inferior and she seems never to have warmed to him...yet both were tough and calculating, able to exploit their loveless marriage for mutual political gain. They produced the children necessary for the continuation of their lines, then went their separate ways, never deviating from personal political ambitions. ...Haughty, hard and inflexible, she was criticized by contemporaries for her lack of feminine qualities. The enduring image of her is of a daughter who was at war with her father, Henry I, when he died and who made no effort at reconciliation in his last hours. But she was handsome and brave, a powerful woman in an age dominated by men, and could inspire great loyalty in others...." {-"The Plantagenet Chronicles," ed. by E. Hallam, p. 47}. For a different estimate of `Empress Maud' see "The Warrior Queens," Antonia Fraser, chapter 10. She was christened Adelaine but took the name Matilda on her first marriage. See also http://www.thepeerage.com/p5102.htm and http://womenshistory.about.com/library/bio/blbio_matilda_england.htm. Some report the year of her death as 1167, but most agree on 1169.

[34205] Find A Grave Memorial 79564227 offers: NOAH YOUNG - Oldest of Charles Young's children, was born in Pickaway County, Ohio, Dec. 24, 1818, and in his seventh year moved with his parents to Green Creek township, Sandusky County, Ohio. He helped clear up the farm, a part of which he lived on until his death. He was a kindhearted conscientious man, highly respected and successful in business. A teacher and school officer, farmer and carpenter. He refused to be elected to any public office. In 1857 he joined the U. B. church and was made a local preacher that year, exerting a good influence for righteousness and truth. He married Orlintha Brown, Sept. 11, 1842, a daughter of Jerry and Olive Brown, a good housekeeper, true and faithful to her family. Their eleven children were born on the old home farm in Green Creek Township, Sandusky County, Ohio. . . . Orlintha Young, was affected a long time with stomach trouble and died April 15, 1870, aged 45 years 10 months 18 days, interred in Mt. Lebanon Cemetery. Noah married his second wife, Louisa Braund a Canadian lady April, 7, 1872. They had one child which did not live long. She lived in the old home for a while after Noah's death, then sold it and lives with her niece Mrs. Hattie (Bax) Huss. Noah settled his own estate before death by giving deeds or money to each of his heirs, and an equal share to his second wife. His early playmates were the little Indian boys and their favorite sport was the bow and arrow, running and jumping, etc. The Indian village was two miles south east of our home and the Indians were very friendly. Noah could stand and jump eleven feet, and run and jump over a rope high as his head.
