[44993] Evelyn and Harry had Edith A. Acker Smith (1889-1964) & Kathryn A. Acker Berry (1898-1974). "Reading Times [Reading, Pennsylvania], 5 May 1917," p. 1: "Mrs. Evelyn B Acker, wife of Harry A. Acker, of 713 North Fifth street, died suddenly last night in the Reading Hospital, after a brief illness. Mrs. Acker was admitted to the institution last Monday. After a consultation of physicians an operation was decided upon and Dr. Nassau, of Philadelphia, performed it on Tuesday. Her condition apparently improved. Shortly after 8, last evening she was visited by her husband and daughters, when she was in good spirits. At 9:15, after the family had returned home, they were notified of the sudden; change for the worse. They had scarcely reached her side when the end came. Mrs. Acker was a consistent member of the First Presbyterian Church and was affiliated with a number of civic organizations. She was always ready in well doing and was highly esteemed by many friends, to whom her death will be a sad loss. She was 51 years old, and a daughter of the late William H. and Anna V. Bright, of Ashland, Pa. Besides her husband, Harry A. Acker, who is general manager of the Grand Union Tea Company, 406 Penrt street; she is survived by two daughters, Edith B., and Kathryn, at home. Four brothers, Hunter F. of Ashland; Morton D., Wilmington, N. C.; John M., Mt. Carmel; David J., Shamokin, and a sister, Mrs. A. P. Stewart, of Christiana, Pa, also remain."
