Robert did not claim the crown on his brother's death in 898, but recognized the Carolingian king, Charles III; Robert continued to defend northern France from Norman attacks as "duke of the Franks"; about 921 he gathered support for his claim, and drove Charles into Lorraine; 29 June 922 he was crowned at Rheims and the next year faced Charles' attempt to oust him, during which "in a stubborn and sanguinary battle near Soissons, Robert was killed, according to one tradition, in single combat with his rival." {-Encyclopaedia Britannica, 1956 Ed., 19:346} Robert's daughter, Emma, m.

- Richilde Robertien ( 865 - ?) ep. Richard de Troyes, comte de Troyes

[44292] Find A Grave memorial 87515431 offers Raymond's obituary: "Raymond E. Shirk, 61, founder and CEO of the Securus Group, died the evening of Tuesday, March 27, 2012, at Hospice of Lancaster County, Mt. Joy facility, after a courageous two-year battle with metastatic melanoma. Ray faced his illness as he faced his life: with courage, dignity and a positive attitude in the midst of the most difficult of challenges. Born Dec. 26, 1950, in Lewistown, he was the son of Betty Shirk, Mifflintown, and the late Louis Shirk, who passed away in 2010. Ray was a successful businessman, entrepreneur and visionary, but his greatest source of fulfillment came from spending time with his family and friends. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Lisa. He was 'Pop' to his sons, Eric, Ben and Adam, and daughters-in-law, Julia and Imelda. He was 'Poppy' to his grandchildren, Benny, Bo, Emma and Ethan, whom he adored. He is also survived by: a brother, Chris Shirk, and a sister, Suzanne Rutledge, both of Mifflintown; several nieces and nephews; and his Securus staff, which was an extension of his family. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Heather Lynn Shirk. A 1972 graduate of Penn State University, his insurance career began that same year with the Kemper Group. He later joined CCAB Insurance, in Lancaster, and was named managing general partner of that firm. He held that position until 1992, when he established the Securus Group. Since then, Securus developed under his leadership into a multi-faceted firm and earned the honor of Best Places to Work in Pa. in 2008 and 2011. Ray's ability to lead was evident in the company he grew and in the many relationships he built with his friends and clients, who viewed him as a trusted advisor and mentor. Ray attended LCBC Church, in Manheim, and was a member of a life group and men's fraternity. He served from 1997 to 2009 as an active board member of the Insurance Alliance of Central Pennsylvania. He was a strong advocate for giving back to the community, overseeing contributions to various local sponsorships and fundraisers and was very involved with the Lancaster Science Factory from its inception. In addition to spending time with his family and friends, he enjoyed quiet weekends at the family cabin in Juniata County. When his health allowed, time on the golf course with his buddies was a Saturday morning ritual to which he looked forward. He also enjoyed shooting sporting clays."
