[47159] "The Perry County Democrat [Bloomfield, PA], 16 August 1893," p. 3: "James G. Meminger, who resided on his farm in Liberty Valley, Sandy Hill district, committed suicide last Saturday by cutting his throat with a razor. The particulars of the sad event are about as follows: Mrs. Meminger, son and daughter, left home on Saturday morning to attend the picnic at Sherman's Park, near Blain. Mr. Meminger was in good spirits when they left and told them to endeavor to secure men to help thresh on Monday. When they returned in the evening, Mr. Meminger was not in the house, and, thinking he had gone to a neighbor's, the son was sent after him. Not finding him there, search was instituted about the premisis, and his dead body, stiff and cold was found in a sitting posture on the floor of the outhouse. His throut was cut from ear to ear and the bloody razor, with which the deed was committed, lay beside him on the floor. He had probably been dead several hours. No motive can be ascribed for the terrible act, except that for years he had suffered with dyspepsia aud liver complaint, and was some times very melancholy. His domestic relations were of the happiest character, and none of his family ever heard hin intimate any thing to lead them to suspect he contemplated taking his life. He was a member of the Reformed Church and a highly respected, intelligent man. A wife and six children survive him, namely: Rev. J. W. Meminger, of Lancaster; Mrs. Joseph Kell, of Tyrone township; Mrs. Thomas Drolsbaugh, of Oliioj Mrs. Mohler, Miss Emma and Orrie Meminger."
