Mr. Erdman had been in ill health during the past six months and was admitted to the area hospital on September 17 as a surgical patient. His death was attributed to a complication resulting from a stomach disorder. Born in Ralpho Township, December 2, 1888, Emery G. Erdman was a son of the late George and Sara Emma (Adams) Erdman. He was graduated from Shamokin High School in 1906 and was employed in the mining industry most of his life. In subsequent years, he was named assistant engineer and then assumed the position of chief engineer for the company's home office at Nanticoke. He reached the pinnacle of his affiliation with the firm in 1942 when he was named superintendent of Glen Burn Colliery, succeeding George Cleaver, who retired. The late Coal Township resident served as superintendent for 12 years until his retirement in 1954. At that time, he was succeeded by William H. Moore. Mr. Erdman was married October 30, 1925, in Shamokin to the former Miss Gladys Emrick, daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. E. M. Emrick. A resident of Shamokin most of his life, he was an active member of St. John's United Church of Christ and was affiliated with the Masonic Lodge and its sister organizations, including the Caldwell Consistory of Bloomsburg and the Irem Temple Shrine of Wilkes-Barre.
