[52369] "Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]. 6 December 2022": "Deer Isle - Pearl S. Eaton, Deer Isle, 85, passed away peacefully on November 30, 2022, surrounded by his family, after a brief stay at Winterberry Heights in Bangor, fighting a long, courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. He was born on April 4, 1937, in Little Deer Isle, Maine, son of Marjorie (Hardy) Joyce, and Earl Eaton. Pearl graduated from Deer Isle High School in 1955, and worked for his father-in-law at Colwell Bros., and owned and ran Eaton Oil Co. for 30 years. Some of his favorite activities were golfing, basketball, softball, and hunting. He was a member of Masons, where he received a 50 year pin award recognition, and DeMolay where he coached basketball. Pearl was a President of Island Country Club where he was very involved in expansion of the golf course. He was a school board member and instrumental in the building of the new elementary school. He was also president of the Howard Hill Cemetery, where he volunteered his time mowing and maintaining the grounds. A few of Pearls favorite things were, singing at family weddings and graduations, wintering in Margate, Florida, family cruises, and spending time with all the many friends he made through Maine Oil Dealers. In their early marriage, Pearl and Nancy loved square dancing, and never missed a dance at the Legion Hall, where they were usually the first ones on the dance floor and the last ones to leave. One of Pearls greatest passions was being on the water hauling his lobster traps with a big smile on his face. Pearl is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Nancy Colwell Eaton; and 4 children, Karol and husband, Royce Fifield, of Stonington, Terry Eaton and wife, Sandy, of Deer Isle, Judy Bevis of Londonderry, New Hampshire, and Glenn Eaton of Margate, Florida. He was blessed with 5 grandchildren, Kelley, Dustin, Jenna, Whitney, and Matt; and 5 great-grandchildren, Tanner, Landon, Hannah, Halle, and Shay. He is also survived by siblings, Genie Eaton, Norma Morey, Sandra Seile, and Bernadette Brady, and spouses. He was predeceased by stepbrother, Vaughn Joyce. Pearl was very fortunate to have a very supportive extended family, in-laws, Alfred and Kay Colwell, and Nancy's siblings, Dick, Tom, Claire, and Clarice."
