[1013] Emanuel (also spelled Immanuel) was one of the early settlers of Taunton, MA where his father-in-law conveyed fifty acres to him and Abigail 10 June 1703. See "Ancestors and Descendants of Joshua Williams and John Collar," Christine R. Brown (typescript - Knoxville, TN; Campbell, Inc.). He served in the First Foot Military Company of Taunton, MA in 1710 (- Hist. of Taunton, p. 357 - which reproduces his signature). See "Emmanuel Williams of Taunton, Mass., and Some of His Descendants," by John Oliver Williams (NEHGR [1903] 57:75ff.). Ancestry.com suggests the origin of the surname: "English (also very common in Wales): patronymic from William."
