[58317] Mildred's obituary: "Houlton - Mildred 'Mim' (Young) Nichols, 82, went to her heavenly home Dec. 9, 2011. She was born July 29, 1929, in Houlton, the daughter of Stanley and Frances (Bates) Young. Mim graduated in 1947 from Houlton High School. She was a member of Military Street Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher, and also taught at the nursery school until the time of her husband's death. Mim had been den mother and a short order cook for her father, also a volunteer for the pregnancy care center, St. Mary's Food Pantry and Southern Aroostook Agricultural Museum. She was the first female moderator of Southern Aroostook Baptist Association. Her greatest joy was visiting senior citizens, cooking and running errands for them, and she was on the advisory board for RSVP program. Mim received a letter and a pin from President Obama for her many hours of volunteering. She also formed a singing group called 'The Golden Belles' with Polly Taylor, Sharon Fitzpatrick and Dottie Alward. They performed weekly at Madigan Nursing Home, also at Ricker Plaza, Military Street Nursery School, Mars Hill Nursing Home and in some private homes. Mim is survived by five children, Julie and Oliver Lockhart of Danforth, Steven and Jackie Nichols of Delaware, John and Lori Nichols of Houlton, Paul and Bobbi Nichols of Dover-Foxcroft and Michelle and Jacques Bedard of Canada; seven grandchildren, Katie and Joel Duff of Hodgdon, Adam and Katie Nichols of Bridgewater, Stephanie Nichols of Delaware, Aaron and Alyse Bedard of Canada, Paul Nichols Jr. of Bangor and Mercedes Nichols of Dover-Foxcroft; four great-grandchildren, Samuel and Abigail Duff of Hodgdon, Gracie Lynn Nichols of Bangor and Lila Nichols of Bridgewater; a sister, Lois Tracy of Houlton; many nieces, nephews and cousins; a close friend, Polly Taylor of Houlton; and many special friends of all ages. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Nichols Jr.; two brothers, Ray and John; and two sisters, Dorothy Freng and Jean Conolly."
