He was created '1st Baronet Bingham, of Castlebar, co. Mayo' [Nova Scotia] on 7 June 1634. He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Castlebar [Ireland] between 1639 and 1648." One branch went to Ireland and became the ancestors of Lord Lucan, another branch stayed in Dorset. One of the Dorset Binghams was Maj. Gen Sir George Ridout Bingham who was one of Wellington's Generals in the Peninsular War. . . . One of the Binghams was also responsible for the destruction of Corfe Castle in the English Civil War."

[541] Jacob, a cooper of Ipswich, MA, bought 60 acres of upland and marsh at Cape Neddick, Maine and other land in 1708 and moved there. In 1717 he sold this land and purchased a farm in Ogunquit, Maine where he spend most of the rest of his life. He was part-owner of mills at Phillipstown (now Sanford), York and North Berwick. He was active in the civic life of Wells, Maine, serving as constable, surveyor of highways and selectman. In 1736 he was appointed to the committee to finish the first Meeting House in Wells. He was a physically large man, called "Much Big" Perkins by the Indians. {-"Jacob Perkins of Wells...," cited under father, pp.3-4} [The LDS Church's Ancestral File records (not verified) a third wife, Elizabeth Kinsman (b. 1690 at Ipswich, MA, d. 27 Sept 1732 at Ipswich, m. in 1714), with whom he had Elizabeth Perkins (b. 1717-18, d. 22 March 1788 in Windham Co., CT). The Ancestral File also states that Jacob and Lydia were married earlier than 1712, and had as first child Jacob Perkins (AFN:MSPZ-LK), born 1710 at Cape Neddick, York County, ME, bapt. 11 Sep 1737 in Wells, ME, d. by 2 Nov 1742 in Wells, ME.] For their children, see http://www.theroyfamily.com/gen/roy/p284.htm which reports that Jacob "died between 19 March 1770 and 15 October 1772 at Wells, York County, Maine." "Legislators of the Massachusetts General Court, 1691-1780," (p. 414) on-line in the New England Historic Genealogical Society web site, states that he served on five committees during his two years as a representative to the General Court.
