Peter Perkins, patriot, entomologist, academic, golfer, and lover-of-nature was born in Bangor, Maine to Louise and Raymond Perkins. He went to Brewer High School, earned his Bachelor's degree on a ROTC scholarship from the University of Maine in Orono, earned his Master's degree in Entomology from the University of Arizona, and earned his PhD in Entomology from the University of Florida. He entered the US Army in the Medical Service Corps as a Second Lieutenant and deployed to Vietnam in 1971 where he earned a Bronze Star. He continued to serve in the Army as an avid researcher with many publications, national presentations, and book chapters on tropical diseases such as Leishmaniasis and Malaria. He rose to the rank of Colonel, serving in key positions to include the Medical Entomology Consultant to the Army Surgeon General and Executive Director of the Armed Force Pest Management Board, and retiring in 1995 with the Defense Superior Service Medal. He is preceded in death by his father, Raymond, and his first spouse, Linda. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Venecia; his mother, Louise Perkins, his brother and sister, Gerald Perkins and Diane and Mickey Mallory; his sons and daughters-in-law, David (Whitney) Perkins, Jeremy (Kelly) Perkins; and his ten grandchildren, Linda, Cameron, Noah, Kira, Christopher, Seth, Christian, Lauren, Luke, and Elijah. He will be lovingly remembered for his intelligence, kindness, humor, and encyclopedic knowledge of nature and everything crawling in and outside the house."
[56872] "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 28 September 2021: "Lexington, SC - Estelle Randlett Tapley of Hartland, Maine, died peacefully at her daughter's home with her daughters by her side on Wednesday, September 22, 2021.She was born September 2, 1927, in Skowhegan, Maine, the daughter of Linwood and Ada (Cyr) Randlett. She married Keith Rees Tapley August 7, 1944, and they spent 59 years together before his passing in 2002. Together, they owned and operated Hartland Grain and Grocery for almost 30 years before their retirement in 1978, due to her husband's health issues. For over 25 years she steadfastly cared for him while helping to care for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Estelle was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend to many. She absolutely loved family get togethers and always had enough food for an army! Many of her favorite get togethers occurred at their camp on Great Moose Lake where she could watch all her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, relatives and friends swimming together. Everyone could always count on lots of food and a warm towel when coming in from the Lake. She was also dedicated to her home church Grace Linn United Methodist and particularly loved the Tuesday morning Women's Bible Study Group and Methodist Women, hosting many get togethers at the Great Moose Lake Camp. She was active in the Couples Club and other organizations and civic activities. In her later years, she became a fan of the University of Connecticut and University of South Carolina Women's Basketball and attended many games. She could cheer with the best of them. As a 6th generation life long resident of Hartland, she supported her town in many endeavors through the years. While she enjoyed living with her daughters in Lexington, Hartland was always home. She is survived by her children, Shari Vigue, and Deborah Tapley (Debbie Francis); daughter-in-law Corinne Tapley; grandchildren, Kimberly Vigue Roach (Jamie), Jonathan Tapley (Joy), Jeffrey Tapley, and Andrea Vigue (partner Lance McNeil). She is also survived by 7 great-grandchildren, Matthew Roach, Kaitlyn Anderson, Hannah Roach, Megan Tapley, Erin Tapley, Sarah Tapley, Nathaniel Scardino; nieces, Karin Randlett, Carla Randlett Wittenburg, Erica Randlett Harbarta, Suzanne West; and nephews, Keith Badger, Roderick Badger and Kermit Badger; and many long time friends she loved as family. Estelle was predeceased by her loving husband, Keith R. Hannah was b. ca. 1690 and d. by 1749 at Truro.
