[60144] "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 12 August 2025: "Orono, Maine - Linwood 'Woody' Leland Carville passed away August 2, 2025, at St. Joseph Hospital in Bangor, Maine. He was 93 years old. Woody was born in Lewiston, Maine, on August 20, 1931. He was the son of Katherine McGorman Carville and Harry Linwood Carville. The family, including his older sister, Eleanor, eventually settled in York, Maine. Woody graduated from York High School as an excellent student and athlete. He entered the University of Maine in Orono in 1949. He distinguished himself as a three-sport athlete and was elected membership in two academic honor societies, graduating in 1953. While attending college, he participated in ROTC. He married Jean Grindle in October 1953, and they had two children, Douglas and Deborah. The family later resided in Orono, Maine, for many years. Upon graduation, Woody was employed first at Waterville High School in Maine and later at Laconia High School in New Hampshire as a teacher and coach. He was employed at the University of Maine in Orono for 32 years. During those years, he served as a coach, assistant dean of men, and associate athletic director. While at the University, he also taught an athletic administration class, was a member of the faculty athletics board, established and ran the summer sports clinics, and was on the M Club Board of Directors. He received a Black Bear Award for Distinguished Service and an Alumni Service Award for his outstanding contributions to the University. Woody served in the United States Army Reserve for 30 years receiving a Legion of Merit Award and retiring as a full colonel. In 2001, Woody was inducted into the University of Maine Sports Hall of Fame as a student-athlete, coach and administrator. In recognition of Woody's commitment to support students in academic and athletic endeavors, an annual Senior Achievement Award honoring a football player is given in Woody's name. He was a board member for the Orono-Old Town YMCA, Treasurer of the Orono Volunteer Rescue Squad, charter member of the Orono Land Trust, and served on the Orono School Committee. He was a distinguished member of the Orono-Old Town Kiwanis, a Little League baseball coach, and a YMCA swim meet official. He was a congregant of the Church of Universal Fellowship. Woody could often be found manicuring his lawn, flower beds, and vegetable gardens. Woody was predeceased by his parents, Harry Linwood Carville and Katherine McGorman Carville; his sister, Eleanor Todd; and his wife, Jean Carville. He is survived by his son, Douglas Carville and daughter, Deborah Carville-Welton. Mr. Carville is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Karen Carville, wife of Douglas Carville; as well as two grandsons, Chris and Brian Carville. This generation carries on with the Carville family with great-grandchildren, Rory Carville, daughter of Chris and Brittany Carville, and Ari Janice Carville, daughter of Brian Carville and fiance, Eden Cianciolo. Woody is also survived by his sister-in-law, Norma Patterson; as well as several nieces and nephews."

The 1900 federal census lists him as Henry (with his wife, Julia) in the family of his father in Islip, Suffolk Co., NY. 1910 federal census lists him in Ward 19, Manhattan, New York City, parents b. in Germany, wife Julia T., with children William K. (age 21), Doris A. (20), Julia A. (18) and Adolph M. (15), and seven other persons (presumably servants). His father, William Dick, founded the sugar industry in the United States of America - see "Merchants of Williamsburg: Frederick C. Havemeyer, Jr., William Dick, John Mollenhauer, Henry O. Havemeyer," Harry W. Havemeyer (privately printed, c. 1989 - Brooklyn, NY Public Library call # 664.1 H).
"A history of Long Island, from its earliest settlement to the present time," Peter Ross (New York: The Lewis Publishing Co., 1902) offers: "John Henry Dick, actively and prominently connected with the sugar-refining industry and with other large commercial and financial enterprises in New York city and vicinity, was born in the metropolis February 22, 1851, a son of William Dick, whose life and great business achievements are referred to at length elsewhere in this volume. He received his literary education at Stamford. Connecticut, after which he completed a course in Bryant & Stratton's Business College in Brooklyn, New York. He then entered the sugar refinery of Dick & Meyer, and under the direction of bis father fully mastered all the details of the business, through its mechanical operations as well as in the counting-room. He afterward became secretary of the company, and occupied that position until the destruction of the works by fire. September 7, 1889. In the reorganization of the business he became identified with the Mollenhauer Sugar Refining Company, and director of the National Sugar Refilling Company, of New Jersey. His career has been marked by wise judgment, keen discrimination and conservative spirit, and he is regarded by bis associates as in all respects the highest possible authority in all matters affecting the large interests in which he is concerned. He is also actively interested in other business enterprises, including banking and trust companies, manufactures and similar concerns. Making his home in Brooklyn, his interest has been enlisted in various benevolent and social movements of the city. He was among the organizers of the Amphion Academy and the Hanover Club, in which he has served as a director, and he has held a like position in the Brooklyn Throat Hospital, which owes much to his generosity. He is a member of the Deutscher V'erein, New York, the Bushwick Club and the Crescent Athletic Club of Brooklyn, and of the Manhattan Club, of New York. He is a Democrat in politics, but has ever been unambitious of personal preferment. With his family his religious associations are with the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer. On the 24th of November, 1886, Mr. Dick was united in marriage to Miss Julia T. Mollenhauer, a daughter of John Mollenhauer, the founder of the Mollenhauer Sugar Refinery Company. Of this union were born four children: William K., Adolph M., Doris A. and Julia A II Dick."

[20568] http://www.alnwickcastle.com states: "Henry, 8th Earl of Northumberland (1572-1585). On the death of the 7th Earl in 1572, his brother, the 8th Earl, succeeded. He had gained the reputation of an able soldier, diplomat and administrator in Border warfare. He was professedly a Protestant and had taken the side of the Government against his brother in the Rising of the North, which prejudiced him in the eyes of the Catholic north; but his conduct in general appears to justify the charges brought against him by his contemporaries of being ruthless, crafty and unscrupulous. He soon fell under the suspicion of attachment to the Church of Rome and was kept under close surveillance by the Government and served two terms in the Tower. In 1584 he was arrested on false charges of complicity with Mary Queen of Scots and sent to the Tower for the third time. In the following year he was found in his cell shot through the heart. The Government tried to prove that he had died by his own hand, but there were circumstances pointing to murder. The Earl was succeeded by his son Henry."
