[55286] "Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 11 December 2023: "Verona Island - Patricia 'Patty' Bridges passed away peacefully in her home on November 25, 2023, with family by her side. She was born on Verona Island on April 11, 1932, to George Francis and Viola (Bridges) Anderson. She grew up on Verona, graduating from Bucksport High School, Class of '49. She is survived by three daughters, Vicki Bakeman (Leon), Kimberly Bridges (Stephen Crosson) and Andrea Moran (Richard). Additionally, she leaves behind her grandchildren, Tracey, Kaci, Patrick, Megan, Robbie, Samie and Mya; and great-grandchildren, Ashley, Alex, Eloise, Abigail, Luca, Nolan, and Mack. She also leaves many special nieces and nephews. In 1954 she married the love of her life, Kenneth Bridges, from Penobscot. After a few years together they built their home on Verona, where they would raise three daughters. Staying in her home until her last days was one of her wishes, and it gives great peace to her family that they were able to grant that wish. She dedicated her life to fulfilling the roles of homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt. Both Patty and Ken loved to have huge vegetable gardens, picking their bounty on warm summer days. That was followed by canning and preserving them, filling their cellar shelves with vegetables to eat during the upcoming cold Maine winter. Being a mother meant the world to Patty, especially after losing her own mom at a tender young age. She always made sure her daughters had everything they needed and then some. There were new clothes in September as the school year began. Birthdays were made into special celebrations; there were always homemade decorated cakes, special gifts, and included numerous cousins and friends. Easter brought beautiful puffy dresses, patent leather shoes, and big baskets teeming with candy. Christmas was magical. There were mysterious notes from Santa, new dolls, clothes, and games under the tree, and overstuffed Christmas stockings. She never failed to exceed everyone's wishes. She made sure her family sat down to a homemade supper every evening and that her daughters were kissed and tucked in at bedtime. She was there for her family always, with a twinkle in her eye, a quick smile, listening and helping in any way she could. Her ability to remember birthdays of her extended family and friends was amazing. Even in her final years, she would manage to send cards and gifts to loved ones. She enjoyed games and never turned down an opportunity to play Scrabble or Cribbage. She rarely missed Wheel of Fortune or Jeopardy. She was quick to laugh and had an incredible sense of humor and managed to still joke with her girls and granddaughter during her final days. A special thank you to the many caregivers and nurses who helped her over the years: Ruth, Muriel, Lauren, Gail, Lou, Lindsay, and her special Lisa, who had been with her through it all. Her family is grateful for all of the visitors in her last years. She particularly enjoyed the frequent visits by Larry and Max and looked forward to them. Patty requested a graveside service only, which will be held on June 8, 2024, at 2 p.m. at Bayview Cemetery in Penobscot, ME."

[54995] "The Ellsworth American [Ellsworth, Maine]," 23 October 2023: "Milbridge - Gloria S. Beal, 84, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2023, at Down East Community Hospital in Machias. Gloria was born in Milbridge on June 16, 1939, the daughter of the late Daniel & Doris (Young) Smith. To say that Gloria was a hard worker is an understatement. She was faster than most and excelled at anything she did with her hands, including picking crabmeat (55 pounds in one day, with her helpmate), packing fish (faster than the speed of light) at Jasper Wyman and Sons, making wreaths at home and at Kelco Industries, where she made many friends, working there for 30 years. She just retired in March 23 and was one of the last of 'The Golden Girls' there. She instilled a strong work ethic in all her children, starting some of them off raking blueberries at 6 years old. She and Curt enjoyed family fishing trips with Carroll and Barbara Perry for many years and weekly visits with Lawrence and Irene Dow, who all predeceased her. Family feels comforted in believing theyre all reunited again. She enjoyed cooking, crocheting, playing card games and board games of all kinds, camping at Schoodic Lake and working. Above all, she enjoyed her family. She will be sadly missed by her loving children; son Royce Beal and wife Mildred of Milbridge; and her son Daniel Beal and his wife Bethanie of Beals; her daughter, Janice Grant of Milbridge; and her son Bruce Beal and his wife Lisa of Sullivan; her grandchildren Erin Robbins and husband Jay; Jason Beal and wife Brittany; Kristal Bubar and husband Clark; Jamie Grant; Abraham Beal and wife Whitney; Andrew Beal and wife Dedra; Renee Chandler and husband D.J.; Brandee Hall and husband Andrew; Benjamin Beal and fiancée Kayla; Nicole Ball; Wyatt Burke; great-grandchildren Caleb Alley; Brookelyn and Peyton Bubar; Emma and Kai Robbins; Khloei, Khinlei, Koeltin Chandler; Anna Elise and William Beal; Indie and Isaac Hall; Winter and Harvey Beal; Ellouise and Emmalyn Beal; Aaliyah and Landon Colson. A special niece, Melissa Rapa and husband Allan, and boys Daniel and Derek; sisters-in-law Patricia Smith; Rose Marie Beal; Lorita Tucker and husband Nathan and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Curtis O Beal, both parents Daniel and Doris Smith, brothers, Earland West and Nathaniel Smith, sister Herma West, brother in-law Roger Beal and sister in-law Pauline Beal."
