The 14 July 1860 federal census of Canton Twp., Stark Co., OH lists the family (parents b. in PA, children b. in OH): Christian (age 55), Mary (51), John (23), Elizabeth (21), Sam'l (17), Ellen (11) and Mary A. Mishler (1) - Christian's real estate was valued at $16,000 and his personal estate at $1,019. The 1880 census at Canton, Stark Co., OH lists him as age 74 and a retired farmer. "A Standard History of Stark County, Ohio...," John H. Lehman, ed. (Chicago: The Lewis Publishing Co., n.d.), pp. 683-4 presents a detailed sketch of Christian and lists his children; the sketch states he was a member of the "German Baptist Church."

He was born on Verona Island, a son of Roland and Kathleen (Tenney) Gray. Harlan worked for and retired from J.J. Nissen Baking Company after 35 years of service. He also held a master burner man's license and did that work on his time away from Nissen's. He was very much a family man and loved his family and his little dog, Molly. He is survived by his loving wife, Dawn (Astbury) Gray, Harlan was the love of her life, and she will greatly miss him. He is also survived by sons, Brian Gray, Shawn Gray and fiancée, Kandy Niles, and Penny Gray; stepchildren, Kelly Skinner and partner, Dave Lawry, Stacy Gaspar and husband Wayne, Laura Morey, Michael Darragh and wife, Shawnie; 18 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. In addition to his parents Harlan was predeceased by son, Michael Gray and his wife, Ellie; son, Rusty Gray; and one grandson, Tyler Gray."

The ceremony was performed at the North Market street home of the bride's parents. Rev. John B. Focht and Rev. Arthur C. Harris officiated. Miss Minnie Rine, sister of the bride, was maid of honor. The ring-bearers were Misses Catherine and Mary Harriet App, nieces of the bride. Miss Mary Steele, of Northumberland, played the wedding march, and George D. Witmer of Middleburg, brother of the bridegroom, sang a solo. Mr. and Mrs. Witmer will go to housekeeping in Allenwood, where Mr. Witmer is cashier of the Allenwoo Bank. Both the bride and bridegroom are graduates of Susquehanna University. Mr. Witmer voluntered at the outbreak of the great war in the ambulance service and was sent to France. He was later commissioned a First Lieutenant."
