[50869] "The Ellsworth American [Ellsworth, Maine], 11 February 2013": "Venice, Fla. - Verna Brackett Kirby died Feb 3, 2013, at a Venice, Fla., hospital. She was born Sept. 2, 1913, in Buckfield to Vernon Kilby Brackett and Mary Eliza Wallace Brackett. Verna attended junior high and high school in Canton, Mass. She graduated from Bates College in Lewiston with a degree in Latin and English. In 1936, she married her college sweetheart, Vincent Kirby. From 1936 until 1970, they resided in Washington, D.C., and Silver Spring, Md. In 1970, they retired to their residences in Corea and Venice, Fla. In Venice, she was a member of PEO, the Mayflower Society and College Club. She attended the Prospect Harbor Methodist Church and Venice United Church of Christ. She was predeceased by her father and mother; her husband, Vincent; and her sister, Frances Morrison Zwinck. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Stewart and husband, Paul, of Corea; son, Paul Kirby and wife, Deirdre, of Jasper, Ga.; grandson, Michael Kirby and fiancé, Tony Jackson, of Sullivan; granddaughters, Melinda Golovko and husband, Michael, of Chula Vista, Calif.; Meredith Dent and husband, Eric, of La Mesa, Calif.; four great-grandchildren, Zachary, Meghan, Ryan and Sophia; nephew, Steven Morrison and wife, Janet, of Raleigh, N.C., and Milbridge and their daughter, Cheryl Rauch and her husband, Shane, of Charles Town, W.Va."
