[21450] Christopher was about 46 years old in 1701. In 1681 he laid the stealing of two pigs to his brother John and Robert Braines, but offered to pay Lt. Neale for three pigs rather than go to law. He was taxed as late as 1736. He served in the Prince Phillip's War as of June 24, 1676. and served with Capt. Week's Company. He served with Captain James Davis' scouting in 1712 for 12 days and was voted pay of 1 shilling a day by the House on May 9,1713. He settled in Greenland, NH by 1680 and in 1736 was in Newmarket. Christopher was at the battle 19 Dec 1675 at Narragansett, etc. - see MA Archives 68:97. Cf. http://kinnisonfamily.tripod.com/id1.html.
[60229] Find A Grave memorial 111366312 offers: "Genealogical and Family History of the State of Maine (p. 1542) states that Samuel was the fourth son of Abijah and Rebecca Lewis and was baptized in Buxton, Maine, on April 10, 1777. According to Saco Valley Settlements and Families, Samuel moved from his native town of Buxton to Harrison and settled in the south part of town on the Pond road, where six children were born. Afterwards, he moved to Springfield, Maine, where 'he was a preacher of the primitive stamp.' The Free Baptist Cyclopedia, 1889, entry on Rev. Samuel Lewis was as follows. Rev. Samuel Lewis of Springfield, Me., died after brief illness, Sept. 4, 1850, aged nearly 75 years. He was born in Buxton, Maine. At the age of 24 he married Miss Phebe Irish. He was converted at the age of 28 and was baptized by John Buzzell. Having removed to Chatham, NH, he began to preach and saw his labors blessed, especially in Sherburne. After 5 or 6 years (and after his father-in-law's death in 1815) he removed to Harrison, Me., where he had great revivals. In February 1830, he moved to Springfield in easterly Maine, where he was ordained by the Sebec Q. M. in 1832. He was instrumental in promoting revivals in this new section and in organizing and sustaining several of the churches that now compose the Springfield Q. M. His preaching was rich in Christian experience. The Centennial History of Harrison, Maine (p. 146) lists Samuel, Phebe, and Abigail Lewis as original members of the Free Baptist Church of Harrison. The Story of An Old New England Town-Lee, Maine (p.25) states that Rev. Samuel Lewis preached occasionally in Lee and organized a Free-will Baptist Church there, also starting one in Chester at the same time. In 1838, he was succeeded in Lee by Levi Moulton. According to Ruth Lewis, Samuel was one of the first settlers in what is now Springfield. He was also a fire and brimstone preacher and it was said that if you lived nearby you did not have to go to the church to hear his sermon, which usually ended with the admonition 'If you don't change your ways, I will glorify in watching you burn in Hell.' He preached on a circuit that included other towns in the vicinity of Springfield. Married Phebe Irish on Dec. 4, 1800."
