[12033] Jean m. 23 July 1949 William James Gallagher (b. 6 Dec 1918, d. 16 Sept 1956). Jean and William died in California due to burns suffered in a furnace explosion in their home. They are buried beside her parents in Wooster, OH. "Mirror News [Los Angeles, California], 15 September 1956," p. 1: "A mysterious explosion and fire which destroyed the home of an airlines executive in Reseda killed his young wife and burned him critically early today. Mrs. Jean Gallagher, 33, of 7736 Balcom Ave. was dead in the hallway of her flame-swept home when firemen arrived. Her husband, William, 37, is in Northridge Hospital. He was rescued by Fireman Stanley Ripple, who crawled through. a window Into the flaming master bedroom and carried him out. E. J. Lane, who lives across the street at 7735 Balcom Ave., told investigators that an explosion preceded the fire at 4:45 a.m. Lane said he had seen the Gallaghers return home as he went to bed about 1:45 a.m. Lane arose three hours later for a drink of water, and was startled by a loud explosion across the street. Lane reported that "flames were shooting 10 feet in the air around the house right after the explosion." The interior of the ranch home was burned out. Firemen could not find the cause of the blaze immediately. Gallagher was so severely burned he could not give a coherent account of the fire. Firemen theorized that both were virtually overcome by smoke in the early stages of the blaze, and staggered out bed in a semi-stupor when the flames advanced into the bedroom. Gallagher was regional manager of Pacific Southwest Air Lines. He was transferred here from San Francisco two years ago, and was originally from New York. The Gallaghers had no children. Their collie dog perished in the fire. Its body was found near Mrs. Gallagher."

[45310] "The Selinsgrove Times-Tribune [Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania], 26 July 1923," p. 1: "George S. Rine, scion of one of Snyder county's oldest and most prominent families, was buried yesterday afternoon from his late home on North Market street. Services were conducted by Rev. Dr. John B. Focht, and interment was made in Union cemetery. Mr. Rine succumbed to a lingering illness at noon Sunday. The deceased man passed the greater part of his life at McKee's Half Falls, where the family had large real estate and merchandising interests. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John M. Rine, having been born in Chapman township sixty-seven years ago. Upon the death of the head of the head of the family the older brother, the late John S. Rine, continued to operate the general store facing the road on one side and the canal on the other. The younger brother built a beautiful home on his adjoining farm to the south, and also engaged In merchandising at good location, catering to canal and community trade. The Rine name has always stood for the highest standards in business and consequently has long been synonymous with success. It has been the same with their farm management, and thus the family merited the position they attained. Mr. Rine relinquished his merchandising activities six years ago, whereupon he removed to Seiinsgrove to pass the remainder of his days with less exacting application to business. Influenza and the World War brought two bereavements to the Rine household in the death of a daughter Gertrude, wife of Isaac D. App, and the family's only son, Musser, who died too of Influenza within a few days of his sister, while he was in an army training camp. The father's health broke under the shock. Mr. Rine's condition became critical two years ago, and there was no remedy for the broken heart. Miss Harriet Musser, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Musser, of McAlisterville, and Mr. Rine were married. Surviving are Mrs. Rine and their daughters, Miss Minnie A., at home, and Sarah, wife of Ralph D. Witmer, of Allenwood; and granddaughters Mary and Catherine App. Surviving brother and sisters are Philip S., of Fremont, Neb.; Mrs. Lydia Coleman, Gratz; Mrs. Catherine Wentzel, Landisburg, and Mrs. Sue Matts, Indiana."
