[13273] Find A Grave Memorial 62866298 offers: "During Eliza's early life she with her mother, father and 10 younger brothers and sisters migrated to California. They went by covered wagon. Eliza's mother was expecting her 12th child. The mother became ill and died on the way. They buried her on the prairie near Sweet Water, WY. Marie, the 14 year old daughter would die three weeks later and was buried in the salt flats of Utah. The bereaved family pushed forward to Stockton, Calif. where another brother, reduced by the hardships of the trip finally succumbed, leaving the care of the remaining eight children to Eliza. Eliza's father would stay in Calif for about three years. Then the family returned to Illinois again by wagon. Eliza met a young soldier on the trip. He wanted to marry her. Her father said no, So the soldier gave her a gold piece to remember him by. She kept it. The family would move on. They would end up in Elk Point S. D. The family next door was Merritt and Elizabeth Barber. The oldest brother of Wanton Corey Barber. Eliza took care of the children until Laura, the youngest was eleven years old then she married Wanton C. Barber. They were married at Elk Point, So. Dakota. They moved to Villisca after their oldest son William W. was born at Yankton, So. Dakota. When they moved to IA. Eliza's Dad, Allen and the children that were at home moved too. She told the story of her walking to Calif. to her older grandchildren many times as they were growing up. They had been married over 53 years at the time of her death. Eliza Jane passed away June 15, 1926. She is buried at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Villisca, Iowa."
[11196] Marianne is daughter of Louis de Geer of Leufsta, Baron de Geer af Leufsta.
