[51844] "Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine], 26 February 2014": "Ellsworth and Brewer - Ralph Marden Dunbar, 90, the husband of Jacqueline (Wescott) died Feb., 25, 2014, at a local nursing facility. He was born Sept. 22, 1923, in Trenton, the eldest son of J. Marden and Caroline (Royal) Dunbar. He graduated from Ellsworth High, in 1941, and graduated from the University of Maine with a degree in Civil Engineering in 1949. Ralph joined the service in 1941 proudly serving his country and was a Veteran of World War II, serving as a machine gun section leader with the 78th Infantry Division. He was severely wounded in Obergartzen, Germany, and spent months recovering and was awarded a Purple Heart. He met his bride Jackie from the Ellsworth area and they were married in 1947. Ralph was employed by the Maine Department of Transportation for 30 years retiring as a Division Engineer. He was a lifetime member of the Masons for over 45 years and a past member of the First Congregational Church of Brewer for many years where he served as a Trustee and Deacon of the church. In addition to his wife of 66 years, Ralph is survived by his two sons, Bruce and wife, Lisa, of Chapin, S.C., and Michael and his significant other, Kathy Hall, of Brewer; one brother, Harold of Ellsworth; two sisters, Carolyn and her husband, James Patten, of Ellsworth, and Kathleen and her husband, Wesley Cook, of York Beach; grandsons, Ryan Dunbar and girlfriend, Amy Chase, of Peru, and Colin Dunbar of Connecticut; granddaughters, Kristi Santos and husband, Nate, of Amherst, Kami Dunbar of California, Bethany McWade and husband, Jay, and Alyse Baillargeon and husband, Ed, both of Connecticut; one stepgrandchild, Laren Rosella and husband, Kevin, of North Carolina; seven great-grandchildren, Jakob Paterson of South Carolina, Kylie, Katelyn, Trafton and Garrett Santos, of Amherst, Landon Baillargeon and Molly McWade, both of Connecticut; and one stepgreat-grandchild, Kadyn Rosella of North Carolina. He was predeceased by his granddaughter, Michelle Dunbar of Brewer; a sister, Mary Bedard of Ellsworth; and one brother, Keith of Bucksport. Among Ralph's favorites pastimes was relaxing at Georges Pond, flying his plane, playing golf, skiing and snowmobiling. His happiest times were spent with his loving wife and family at his side."

Dunbar, 93, a retired Navy nursing corps lieutenant commander who died Monday in Devereux House Nursing Home here. She was born in Penobscot, Maine, and lived in Marblehead for the past 39 years. Miss Dunbar graduated from the former Connecticut College for Women and trained in psychiatric nursing. She later attended Georgetown University. She worked as a dietician in the Navy and in several East Coast hospitals. Miss Dunbar served the Navy for 20 years in the Nurse Corps of the Bureau of Medicine and Surgery. She retired in 1947 and moved to Marblehead. She was on duty in Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941, the day Japanese forces attacked the Navy base there and declared war on the United States. While on duty in Washington, D.C., in 1930s, Miss Dunbar contributed to the purchase of the Army and Navy nurse statue that was placed in Arlington National Cemetery. She was a life member of the Retired Officers Association, the Marblehead Historical Society, life member of the Cyclists Touring Club of London, and the Chaplain Lyman Rollins Veterans of Foreign Wars Post of Marblehead."

Great-grandchildren Amanda and Rylee Dorr, Bentley and Amara Mitchell, Levi Limeburner, Amy Wadsworth, and Logan Astbury. Special friends Steve Peasley, John Bakeman, Blaine Astbury and Norton. Along with nieces, nephews and many other cherished friends. Janet will be remembered for her delicious whoopie pies and hand-knit wool socks. The door was always open no matter the time of day. She loved having the kitchen full of visitors, never knowing who was going to be there. It was always warm and cozy by the woodstove, where there were many stories told and so many wonderful memories made. Janet worked caring for Anita Harris on Dog Island, the Penobscot Nursing Home, Camp Fourwinds, cleaning, and alongside Dennis digging clams. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She enjoyed listening and singing along with country music. Every now and then she would do a little jig."

She was born at Orland Feb. 21, 1888, the daughter of John and Emma (Swan) Marks. She was a member of the Castine Federated Church the Dr. Mary Cushman Circle and the Order of the Eastern Star, S.K. Whiting No. 79 of Castine. of which she wave life member She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Louise Brown of Castine; three grandchildren, Dawn Pinkham of Castine, Gayle Morrisey of Swampscott, Mass., Jan Dougherty of Phoenix, Ariz, seven great-grandchildren." Clara is daughter of John Morten Marks of Sedgwick, ME and Emma Louise Swan of Glen Falls, NH. She was a member of the Castine Federated Church and resided in the house on Pleasant Street occupied in 1998 by the Navy ROTC office, immediately north of the east end of the athletic field, until selling the house to the Maine Maritime Academy (then moving to the small house on Tarantine Street occupied later by her daughter, Louise, who provided her dates and other information). Clara had a brother, William V. Marks, who m. in Castine 10 June 1908 Ruth L. Bowden (daughter of J. Wesley Bowden and Norah L. Heath).
