[19237] Find A Grave memorial 58128698 offers: "The Trinity Lutheran Church Marriage Records list Jacob as the second son of Heinrich Esq. of Reading and his bride, Susanna Gross, as the daughter of late Johannes Gross of Maxatawny Township. He married Susanna Gross on 27 September 1785 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Reading, Pennsylvania. He was a farmer in the vicinity of Nathway, Berks County, Pennsylvania. He sold his land for a couple of chests of Continental money; this money depreciated and left him almost money-less and he struck out to a new area, locating in Williams Valley, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania sometime after 1794. Here he received a tract of land extending from the present site of Pine Grove down the valley. He began the manufacture of lumber and cleared an area to build a home. His nearest market was Philadelphia. (From Cyclopedia of Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania by Samuel T. Wiley, Rush, West & Co.)"

Daniel moved the family about 1846 to Williams Co., OH and then about 1854 to Hillsdale Co., MI - discouraged there by bouts of sickness they returned about 1858 to Jackson Twp., Richland Co., OH where he served several terms as township treasurer and was a prosperous farmer and stock-raiser. In addition to the children shown here, they had twins who died at birth, 6 March 1861, and twins who died at birth 7 March 1869. Daniel's obituary in the Mansfield (Ohio) News 27 Nov 1903 reports he "died at his daughter's, Mrs. Henry Laser. ...He was born in Jackson township in 1824. He spent most of his life in Jackson township with the exception of a few years he lived in Williams county. The burial took place at St. Peter's church, London, on the family lot, services conducted by the pastor of the Reformed church, Shelby. Mr. Cooper was trustee of Jackson township for over 20 years."
"History of Richland County, Ohio..." (Mansfield, OH: A. A. Graham & Co., 1880), p. 790: "Cooper, Daniel, pioneer farmer and stock-raiser; was born in Sharon (now Jackson) Township Oct. 19, 1834; he remained with his father until be was 22 years of age, receiving his education in the district schools. Mr. Cooper married Miss Sarah Briner, who was born about 1828, in Perry Co., Penn., and, as a result of their union, had thirteen children, eight of whom are living-Alvina, Henry, Mary, Franklin, Diana, Daniel, Jane and Burgetta. Mr. Cooper, with his family, moved to Williams Co., Ohio, about 1846, remaining there seven years, when they disposed of their farm and moved to Hillsdale Co., Mich., purchasing 240 acres of land; remaining in Michigan nearly four years, he became discouraged with sickness, and again disposed of his land and returned to his native county, where he still remains, one of the stanch men of old Jackson Township, where he has been elected Township Treasurer for twelve or thirteen consecutive years."
The 10 July 1880 federal census at Shelby, Richland Co., OH lists Daniel, a farmer, with wife Sarah and their children. A twenty year old woman surnamed Briner is shown in the household as a domestic - but no given name is provided.
