[22999] Absalom m. Rebecca (b. in 1796, d. 10 July 1865 in Uniontown, PA).
Anna is daughter of John Hurley and Johanna _____, pioneer residents of Shenandoah, PA. Her sister is Deborah Hurley, who married Timothy O'Mahoney - they had Ellen, Mary (m. ____ Driscoll), Ted (m. Annie Burns) and Elizabeth (m. Michael Whalen).
Erin Gierke (egierke@yahoo.com) shared via email 23 March 1999: Deborah Hurley was born in 1854 - I think in Ireland, but that's not for certain. She married Tim O'Mahoney 25 April 1872 at the Annunciation Church, Shenandoah, PA. I have all their children's names & dates of birth. Irene married Charles Harris Moore, known as Harris to the family. They had one child, Charles Harris, Jr., born 1910 in Philadelphia, PA, and baptized at Our Mother of Sorrows RCC in West PhilPhiladelphia. I located another 4th cousin, the decendant of one of these children. Charles and his son were butchers.
Ancestry.com offers: "Hurley Name Meaning - Irish: variant of Herlihy. Irish (Munster): Anglicized form of Gaelic Ó hUrthuile descendant of Urthuile. Irish: Anglicized form of Gaelic Ó Murthuile, descendant of Murthuile (see Murley). English: habitational name from places in Berkshire and Warwickshire so named from Old English hyrne corner, bend + leah wood, clearing."
-----------------------
"Republican and Herald [Pottsville, PA]," p. 1: "Mrs. Anna Cantlin, widow of Thomas Cantlin and one of Shenandoah's pioneer residents, passed away at her home, 11 South Jardin street, early yesterday morning. Death was the result of a general debility. Widely known in this vicinity, Mrs. Cantlin had scores of friends who held her in the highest of esteem. Her death, while not entirely unexpected, nevertheless, was a sad blow not only to members of the family but to friends as well. A woman of fine character, Mrs. Cantlin was virtually a life-long member of the Annunciation Churcn. She was known as 'Mother Cantlin' to persons in all walks of life and possessed a warm, kindly personality. Born in St Clair, Mrs. Cantlin was a daughter of the late John and Johanna Hurley. She is survived by two sons, John J. Cantlin and Dr. Frank H. Cantlin' at home; two daughters, Mrs. Albm Meluskey of town, and Miss Agnes Cantlin at home, and a sister, Mrs. Ellen McCue of Philadelphia. - Funeral services will be held. Wednesday morning at 9:30 o'clock at the Annunciation Church. A solemn mass of requiem will be celebrated with burial in the Annunciation Cemetery."
