[9703] "The Perry County Democrat [Bloomfield, Pennsylvania], 4 February 1925," p. 3: "Loysville, Feb. 2. This community was saddened by the sudden death of Mrs. Mary Jane Shumaker, widow of the late John Shumaker, who died of paralysis at her home near here at 8 o'clock Friday evening, after a brief illness of several hours. She was first stricken while bringing in a bucket of coal, about 4.30 p. m., when she sank down on a bench outside the porch. Her little grandson, Lester Shumaker, summoned his parents, who lived with her and who were doing the evening work at the barn. They hastily assisted her into the house, at which time she was still conscious, speaking to them and telling them she had had a stroke. Dr. W. T. Morrow was called, but she rapidly grew worse until her death came at the time stated. Mrs. Shumaker, who was aged 66 years, 6 months and 26 days, was a daughter of Emanuel and Leah (Briner) Freeman and was born and raised near Loysville, where all her days were lived. She was married to Mr. John Shumaker, December 23, 1884, by Rev. M. H. Groh, pastor of the Landisburg Reformed charge. Mr. Shumaker departed this life in April, 1923, and her death coming so soon after that of her husband's makes it doubly sad and is a terrible shock to her son, who is the only child. She was a faithful member of the Lutheran Church here, a gentle, kind and devoted mother, whose quiet ways ami daily life and conversation in her home and among all who knew her is an example of Christianity which won the love and esteem of all. Beside her son John Shumaker, of near here, who survives, are one grandson and two brothers, G. B. Freeman, of near Loysville, and John Freeman, of Center."

[2636] Donald's first wife is Helen of Wales, living in 1295. See comments about Donald and his family in "Ancestral Roots..." (Balt., 1992) 252-30. http://www.electricscotland.com/webclans/earldoms/chapter1s1.htm states "He was present at the meeting of the Estates held at Scone on the 5th of February, 1284, in which the barons and bishops bound themselves in the name of the nation to acknowledge the kings granddaughter, Margaret, the Maid of Norway, as the heir of the Crown of Scotland. After the death of the Maid of Norway, in September, 1290, it appears that the Earl of Mar became a supporter of the claims of Robert Bruce of Annandale to the Crown of Scotland. In 1291, Donald, Earl of Mar, one of the seven Earls of Scotland, and the kings freemen of Moray, appealed from William, Bishop of St Andrews, and John Comyn, Lord of Badenoch, Guardians of Scotland, to Edward I. for redress of wrongs done to them by under-wardens of Scotland, who had wasted and plundered their towns and lands in Moray, burned their barns, carried away their goods, and slain men and women. The Earl of Mar was present in the chapel of the Castle of Berwick, on the 3rd of August, 1291, when Edward I. protested that his consent to try the claims of the candidates for the Scottish Crown within the realm of Scotland, should not prejudice the exercise of his right as Lord Superior of Scotland, within the kingdom of England. The same year, on the 24th of July, he was present in the Church of the Friars at Perth, when Edward I. received the fealty of Mary, Queen of Isle of Man, and Countess of Strathearn. Earl Donald fought at the battle of Dunbar, on the 26th of April, 1296; and shortly after he was taken a prisoner by the English. He married Muriel, a daughter of the Earl of Strathearn, by whom he had issue." Cf. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domhnall_I,_Earl_of_Mar.
