[30171] A pdf file in jorandby.net/genealog presents much information on Gustav and his descendants, and offers: "The surname Slora comes from the Slora Mill (Slora Mølle) in the Blaker local parish in the Sørum commune of the Norwegian county Akershus. . . . Gustav's wife Anna and their children -- who all emigrated in 1882 and 1886 -- appear in the 1865 Norwegian census when they were living on the Slora Gard (farm). Note the word "Kværn" in the census table below. (Our English word "quern" is cognate; it denotes a primitive hand-driven stone mill. Strictly speaking, the bottom stationary stone is the quern while the mobile stone is the handstone. In Adams County, Wisconsin, Olea Jorandby, Rosanna (Jorandby) Slorahn's aunt, married Gunnerius Embretsen Bjørnebyqvern, which means that the farm his family came from in Solør in Norway had a mill on it, and they were the millers. In America they dropped the "qvern" and used the name Bjorneby.)" See http://www.sorum.kommune.no and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akershus.
