"Ellsworth American" September 20, 1933, Winfred Wardwell, a lifelong resident of Penobscot, died on Tuesday, September 12, quite suddenly. He was a valued member of the Highland Grange, North Penobscot, and had served faithfully as the Janitor of the Town Hall, and of Clark High School since its establishement. The funeral was held at The Methodist Church on Thursday, September 14, with Rev. Violet Bagly officiating He was the youngest of the family of the late Jeremiah and Julia Wardwell and is survived by a sister, Mrs. S. J. Treworgy of Surry and several nieces and nephews. World War I Draft Registration Card says he was short and of stout build with blue eyes and grey hair." "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 16 Sepptember 1933, p. 6: "Penobscot - Friends in large numbers attended the funeral services of the much beloved citizen Winfred Wardwell, 57, known to everyone as 'Win', held Thursday. Rev. Violet Bagley officiated and interment was in the family cemetery. Floral tributes were sent in great profusion including a large set-piece from the Highland Grange of which he was a most valued member. Mr. Wardwell was born and always lived in this town and was the youngest of the family of Jeremiah and Juliah Wardwell, to whom he was a most devoted son. He had been Janitor of the Clark high school since it was founded and for the past 16 years had the care of the town hall. He had substituted on R. F. D. routes, in the post office and stores. Long a familiar figure on the streets, he will be much missed - kindly, courteous and obliging, his passing will be a distinct loss to the community which he served well and faithfully in any capacity to which he was called, He is survived by his sister, Mrs. Saul Treworgy of Surry, several nieces and nephews."
