In September, 1900, Mr. Bright located at Mount Carmel, having bought the interests of his brother, Hunter F. Bright at this point. His yard is located at Seventh and Oak Streets and is the center of a large trade, which is being steadily built up under Mr. Brights excellent management. He is also agent for the Rubberoid roofing. With an extensive knowledge of his business gained by actual experience, and an enterprising spirit that is equal to the demands of modern successful operations, Mr. Bright has made a good start on a prosperous business life. Mr. Bright married Bertha E. Slanker, daughter of David Slanker, of Gordon, Schuylkill Co., Pa. They have had two children, William and Marshall. Mr. Bright is a member of the Elks lodge at Mount Carmel, and of the American Fire Company of Ashland, Pennsylvania. "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 11 August 1932, p. 4: "Castine, Aug. 10 - Charles Edward Conner, whose death occurred Monday, was born in Penobscot, early coming to Castine where his boyhood was spent, later moving to Brockton where lived for several years. For 47 years he was manager of one of the departments of the United Shoe Machinery Company of Auburn where he owned a fine home. Although being away from Castine all these years his thoughts were ever drifting back to the old town, always planning to return with Mrs. Conner who was a native of Castine being the daughter of the late Jerry Hatch. Two yean ago his opportunity came and purchasing land in Water street he had built a fine home which was hardly completed when he taken away. Seldom has a man come into the community for such a short time who made so many friends. He leaves beside his wife, his daughter, Mrs. G. C. Baldwin of Connecticut; his son, Kenneth of Auburn; his sister, Mrs. Alice Moore of Brockton, Mass. and one brother, Dr. Connor of Massachusett,s with seven grandchildren and other relatives. Mr, Conner was a member of the Ancient Brothers lodge of Auburn and of the Lewiston Commandry of Knights of Templars."
