[5420] Compton's Encyclopedia (via America Online, 1995): "George I (born 1660, ruled 1714-27). When Queen Anne died in 1714, George Louis took the British throne. He had been since 1698 the elector of Hanover, a north German state. His mother, Sophia, was a granddaughter of James I of the English Stuart line. The Act of Settlement in 1701 had barred Roman Catholics from the throne, and George was the closest Protestant heir (see Glorious Revolution). George was 54 years old when he became king. He was much more interested in Hanover, which he continued to rule, than in Britain. Also, since he spoke only German, he left the running of Britain to his ministers. Sir Robert Walpole headed the cabinet in the king's place, and thus in effect he became Britain's first prime minister (see Cabinet Government; Walpole Family). Before George came to England he had divorced his wife, Sophia Dorothea, for misconduct. She was imprisoned until her death in 1726. Two children were born of their marriage, a son and a daughter. He was born February 13, 1968, in Ellsworth, the son of Dana R. Sr. and Patricia A. (Seymour) Fox. He was raised in Mariaville. Scott lived a life full of love, laughter, loyalty, and Budweiser with the people and places he held dear. After graduating from Ellsworth High School, Scott began his career painting cars at Ashmore's before embarking on a remarkable 37-year career with United Parcel Service. Known for his dedication and strong work ethic, Scott was respected and admired by coworkers and customers alike. Scott was a devoted family man, the life of the party, and a great friend to everyone who knew him. His big heart, quick wit, and welcoming spirit made everyone feel like family. A lifelong sports enthusiast, Scott spent countless seasons on the softball field, where his love for the game - and the camaraderie it brought - shined brightly. He was also a passionate fan of the Boston Red Sox, San Francisco 49ers and his Husson Boys, cheering them on with unwavering pride. He is survived by his beloved wife, Melanie (Small) Fox; and his children, Isabelle Fox and Kerrigan Fox, Kacie and Dylan Young, Kristen Omlor and her partner, Jackson Curtis, and Keegan Omlor. He also leaves behind his siblings, Dickie R. Fox Jr., Brenda and David Howard, and Chipper Archer; as well as many cherished friends and extended family members."
