He was a man of good education and was well informed, having served in the Arkansas legislature from Monroe County in 1897 and serving as county examiner in the same county. He came to Pope county from Monroe and it was the good fortune of the editor to know him intimately and be favored by visits from him when he came to Russellville. He was a Confederate veteran, a life long member of the Baptist church, and a man who stood in the high esteem of those who knew him."
