[48994] "The Ellsworth American [Ellsworth, ME], 2 May 2021": "Winter Harbor - Grace Elaine Gerrish, 89, passed away peacefully May 5, 2021, in Ellsworth with her granddaughter Michelle at her side. She was born June 4, 1931, the daughter of Foster and Eva Harrington. Grace graduated from Winter Harbor High School in the Class of 1949. She married the love of her life, Joseph Gerrish, Jan. 31, 1953, while Joseph was enlisted in the U.S. Army and they moved to Alaska. They moved back to Winter Harbor in 1967. Grace worked as a lunch cook at the Winter Harbor Elementary School. With Joseph, she was the owner of the Dairy Barn and Donut Hole in Winter Harbor. She was involved in many organizations in the town and was a lifelong member of the Eastern Star. Grace opened her home many times to people in need; she was truly a mother to her entire community. She enjoyed cake decorating, sewing and especially quilting. She is survived by her children, Cora Gerrish and husband, Paul Hendickson, Thomas, Michael and wife, Mindy, and Cathy; grandchildren, Heather, Ashleigh, Michelle, Michael, Nathan, Brad, Hunter and Jaden; great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Kayleigh and Carson. She was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Joseph; sons, Richard and Russell; two grandsons; eight brothers and sisters; and longtime friend, Alfreda Bacon."
