There is uncertainty as to which John Harmon was parent of Nathaniel. Here is one study and opinion:
FTM CD194, Harmon of Wells and Scarborough, Ancestry of Lydia Harmon, pg 150-151: John Harmon, ... was a soldier in the Narragansett Swamp Fight in 1675. Aroused by the constantly increasing attacks on frontier farms and villages, and seriously alarmed by the massacre of the "Flower of Essex" at Bloody Brook, the New England government determined to strike a crushing blow at King Philip and the hostile tribes. Accordingly, in December, the Massachusetts, Plymouth and Connecticut troops joined forces for an attack on the stronghold of the Narragansetts, a large fort surrounded by a swamp and a barrier of tree trunks. The battle, beginning at four o'clock in the afternoon on December 19, was fought and costly to the English, but resulted in the complete defeat of the fort's defenders and its destruction by fire. Unfortunately no record of John Harmon's enlistment remains. The fact of his service rests on the grant of land made many years later to him and other Narragansett fight veterans by the Massachusetts government. John Harmon appears in Wells, Maine, in 1677, when he received a grant of fifty acres of upland from the town. In 1679 he was engaged in the lumbering operations of the Curwen family of Salem and Wells, boarding with Francis Littlefield. At about this time he married Sarah Roberts, whose father, William Roberts, had bee a victim of an Indian attack at Oyster River, New Hampshire in 1675. Their first child was born in 1680. On October 20, 1680, he bought of John Wentworth of York a farm of one hundred acres in Wells in the deed for which he is described as a planter. [York Deeds III:84] This farm was the family homestead during their residence in Wells. In 1714, Harmon deeded the property to his son Samuel, reserving a life estate in fifty acres. [York Deeds IX:3] He was received to full communion in the Wells church on June 26, 1726. In 1726, Samuel Harmon, who had apparently developed unusual business ability as a millwright, bought a large tract of land in Scarborough and settled there, taking his father and mother with him. In January, 1727, Sarah Harmon journeyed to Biddeford to sign a deed conveying her share of her father's property in Oyster River to Thomas Harris, but, John Harmon being too ill to leave Scarborough, it was necessary to take the deed home for his signature. He was one of the original members of the Scarborough church, founded June 26, 1728. Recognition of his services in King Philip's War came in 1728, when John Harmon of Scarborough, "alive," received a grant in Narragansett No. 3, Souhegan West, now known as Amherst, New Hampshire. [Soldiers in King Philip's War, by G.M. Bodge, second edition, pg 337.] He was still living, at what must have been an advanced age, in 1734, when he sold to Phineas Jones of Falmouth "all Right, Title and Interest in any of ye Lands Granted to the Narregansett Solgers or that may or shall hereafter be granted by ye General Court to ye sd Narregansett Soldiers which belongs to ye sd. Harmon by virtue of his being in the Narragansett Warrs." [York Deeds XVII:30.]

(Gibson Bros., Inc, Washington, D.C., 1920, Second Date, 2000), page 11 "JOHN HARMON, the lst, b. prob. 1650, m. (prob. 1677), Sarah Roberts, dau. of William Roberts of Oyster River, (now Durham, N. H.), near Dover, N. H. In 1667 he was a servant to John Symonds of Kittery, and in 1675 was a soldier in the Narragansett Fort fight with the Indians. In 1677 he was granted land in Wells, Maine; and took the Oath of Allegiance to the Mass. Gov't.. on Nov. 16, 1677, at Wells. He moved to Scarboro, Maine, in 1726, where he was one of the organizers of the 1st. Congregational Church on June 26, 1728. On Oct. 30, 1734, John Harmon, of Scarboro, assigned all interest in lands, given to Narragansett soldiers, which belong to him. He prob. dies in Scarboro after 1742".

(Gibson Bros., Inc, Washington, D.C., 1920, Second Date, 2000), page 11. General Purpose Footnote: John was probably the son of Nathaniel Harmon and Mary Bliss. No records have been found to prove this however. In his book The Harmon Genealogy, Artemas C. Harmon wrote: "It is stated in certain histories that Nathaniel Harmon, the first of the name to settle in Braintree, Mass., was the father of John Harmon, who first settled in Wells and then in Scarboro, Me. There are no known records to prove that Nathaniel was the father of John Harmon, and it is also doubted by many people who have searched for Harmon ancestry. The writer of this book would like to claim Nathaniel as the progenitor of the race, but before doing so would like to have evidence to prove it and also some verification of the statement. The records of Braintree, Mass., specify the names of Nathaniel's children born in Braintree, but they do not include the name of John. However there was a lapse of ten years, (1642 to 1652), between the birth of his daughters, Mary and Sarah, and therefore it is possible that John could have been born during this period. It is also possible that John was born in Dorchester, Mass., on account of the following: "Nathaniel Harmon, one of a committee met at Dorchester and was allotted land there, 1662." also, "John Harmon bp. 20, mo. 4, 1652." (Dorchester Church Records). In opposition to the contention that Nathaniel was the father of John Harmon, Mr. Charles T. Libby, author of the Libby Genealogy and a well known lawyer, of Portland, Me., writes, "I have interviewed the person who furnished the statement that Nathaniel was the father of John Harmon in Mr. Little's book, Genealogical and Family History of Maine, but he will not vouch for it." Rev. George M. Bodge, who searched for years for the record of the original Harmon ancestor also stated in his letters that he never found any evidence to substantiate the statement that Nathaniel Harmon was the father of John Harmon, of Wells and Scarboro, Maine. Therefore, the writer has placed John Harmon as the original American ancestor of the Scarboro Harmons.".

[4796] Malcolm IV succeeded his grandfather and died unmarried at age 23. King Malcolm IV's reign had begun on 24 May 1153 when he inherited the throne from David I. He became known as 'Malcolm the Maiden' because of his religious convictions and was inaugurated at Scone in 1153, at the age of twelve.
