After Joanna died he moved to Boston and opened a business on Long Wharf; at the 50th anniversary Town Meeting of Boston held 14 May 1686 he opened and closed the exercises with prayer, although we do not know why he was selected for this role. The part of Bristol from which he emigrated lay south of the Avon River.
