[14262] The Rev. John Smith is son of Thomas Smith (per Ricardo Rain) and the ancestor of the second Smith line on Martha's Vineyard. He r. Barnstable by 1643, was a freeman 5 June 1651, Deputy to General Court. In Sept, 1661 organized a congregation which the council refused to approve. Was called to be pastor at Sandwich and served there 1673-89.
