[44408] "News-Journal [Mansfield, Ohio], 5 August 2000," p. 10: "Avalon Marie Pickworth, 86, of Mansfield died Friday morning, Aug. 4, 2000, in her home after a long illness. Now at home in God's Kingdom, she was born July 26, 1914 in Plain Township, Ashland County, Ohio to Clyde & Hilda Robinolte Austen, was graduated from Polk High School and had been a Mansfield resident since 1940. A devoted and loving wife and mother, Mrs. Pickworth's greatest love was her family. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and enjoyed the TYTQ group. Cooking and gardening were also favorite pastimes. She is survived by her husband, W. Wayne Pickworth whom she married November 22, 1937; four daughters and sons-in-law, Carol & Roger Blackstone of Mansfield, Sondra Marie & Larry Zerby of Toledo, Lana Diane Snyder of Bolivar, Karen Jean; Evan Mercer of Mansfield; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; a sister, Virginia Hanawalt of Mansfield; and a brother, Clyde Austen of Bellville. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Michael Wayne Zerby; a son-in-law, Richard Snyder; and two sisters, Esther Starner and Norma Austen."
