[59299] Lester's obituary: "Lester H. Jordan, 93, husband of the late Martha P. Jordan, passed away Oct. 19, 1999, at an Ellsworth hospital. He was born Sept. 24, 1906, in Waltham, the son of Alice (Jordan) and Howard Jordan. He was educated in the Waltham and Ellsworth school systems and graduated from Maine School of Commerce (Husson), Bangor. He was part owner of Jordan & Beal Grocery Store at Ellsworth Falls for many years. He was chief deputy sheriff of Hancock County for 14 years and worked for Raymond Sargent Construction as crew supervisor. He worked at the state garage in the Ellsworth area for 18 years, retiring from the state in 1968. He moved to his farm in Waltham, where he did carpentry work for a number of years. He was a life member of the Ellsworth Lygonia Masonic Lodge No. 40 AM & FM in Ellsworth and the Maine State Employee Association. He managed and played with two semi-pro baseball teams in the 1930 and 40s, The Waltham AA and Nicolin Wolves. He greatly enjoyed the outdoors, working on his farm, and especially looked forward to the annual hunting trips in Township 35 with the group known as the '35 Club.' He will be remembered by many for his reminiscing and exuberant stories of his life experiences as only he could tell them. He is survived by a son, Paul Jordan and his wife, Verna, of Waltham; a grandson, Peter Jordan of Waltham; a granddaughter, Darlene Kaspala and husband, Thomas, of Surry; one great-granddaughter, Phyllicia Jordan; five great-grandsons, Ridge and Matthew Jordan, Anthony and Adam Jordan, and Thomas Kaspala III; a nephew, Stanley Jordan, and a niece, Barbara Groton, both of Cape Elizabeth; cousins, Olinda and Alden Griffin of Old Town; close friend, Robert McKinny and his wife, Mary Lou, of Old Town. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 67 years; a brother, Lloyd Jordan; and a great-grandson, Keith Jordan."

Motter was a rail road employee when the company was extended from Chadron to Rapid City. He was active in community affairs. Motter was married Nov. 17, 1912 to Mary S. Mulloy who preceded him in death in 1929.
