Robert de Roos "Furfan" of Helmsley in Holderness, Yorkshire was a Magna Charta Surety, Knight Templar, 4th Baron of Hamlake Manor, Sheriff of Cumberland, and married the widow of Robert the Bruce. http://www.geneajourney.com/ros.html reports: "Nicknamed Furfan, Robert de Ros, as a minor at his father's death was the ward of the King in 1185, when his lands were in the custody of Ranulph de Glanville. In 1190 he had livery of the lands of his Trussebut inheritance. He served as Sheriff of Cumberland 1213-15. As the son-in-law of William the Lion, King of Scotland, he was of his escort into England November 1200, to do homage. He was loyal and closely associated to King John, but was one of his most vigorous opponents in the matter of Magna Carta, being one of the 25 elected to see its provisions were obeyed. He was a benefactor of Rievaulx and Kirkham, and of the Templars, and also founded a hospital for the lepers in Northumberland. His date of death is not known, but his son and heir, William de Ros, did homage for his father's lands 23 December 1226, so whether he had died by this time, or as some speculate, as a Templar, had retired from secular life, is not known." See "Medieval English Ancestors of Certain Americans," Carl Boyer III (Santa Clarita, CA, 2001), pp. 214-215 and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_de_Ros.

[5491] http://www.genealogienetz.de/reg/MEC/mec.html offers: "The Mecklenburg region was conquered by Henry the Lion, Duke of Saxony, in the latter half of the 12th century and the land was first opened up by Henry through a combination of missionary work and colonization. In 1348 it was elevated to a duchy. In 1549 Lutheranism was recognized as the State religion. . . . Between 1733 and 1755 the estate owners of Mecklenburg increased their land holdings. They were backed by the Kaiser of the Holy Roman Empire in this effort. By the Convention of Rostock in 1755 in Mecklenburg Schwerin, all power was placed in the hands of the Duke, nobles, and upper classes. The lower classes had no voice. Land was held under a Feudal system. From 1759 to 1764 all of Mecklenburg was occupied by Prussia. Unlike the surrounding areas, however, Mecklenburg managed to remain autonomous for another century." He is son of Karl Ludwig Friedrich, Grand Duke - see http://www.thepeerage.com/p10279.htm and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_II,_Grand_Duke_of_Mecklenburg-Strelitz.
