[33421] Isaac Harris was killed in the Revolutionary War battle referred to as "Foreman's Defeat" on 27 September 1777 in VA. This battle took place on the Ohio river at a place named McMechen Narrows near present day Wheeling, West Virginia. The unverified Clark Family Tree states Isaac m. in 1753 in Meherrin Parish, VA Elizabeth Wooten (1730-1821) and that Isaac is son of Henry Harris (b. 1670 in Wales) who arrived in Middlesex Co., VA ca. 1683-84. Ancestry.com offers: "Harris Name Meaning - English and Welsh (very common in southern England and South Wales): patronymic from the medieval English personal name Harry, pet form of Henry.This name is also well established in Ireland, taken there principally during the Plantation of Ulster. [16056] Find A Grave Memorial 26169135 offers: "Excerpt from 'A Walk in a Country Churchyard - Autumn 1880' by Luke Smith Mote: 'Joseph Mendenhall and Rachel Mendenhall (his wife) two of the pioneers' graves are thus distinctly marked; he died in September, 1856 in his seventy-ninth year and she in February, 1860 in her eighty-eighth. They had ten children born to them, most of whom survived them. He set up the first tan yard for public work or service in the township; was industrious and accumulated a good deal of property.
