[39689] Amassa's parents are not proven. A posting on-line states "Amassa Flaharty was a Revolutionary War soldier, enlisted twice and fought in the battle of Brandwine and the seige of Yorktown." Find A Grave Memorial 30751012 offers: "He enlisted in the Revolutionary War in March 1777 and discharged in June, 1783. Him and his wife Mary were the first owners of the property in which this cemetery rests. It was told to me by a local, that in the Loundonville Library is Amassa's journal and in one of the entries, it says that he could hear the cannons from Lake Erie during the War of 1812." The unverified Carlyon Family Tree in Ancestry.com in 2018 offers: "When Amassa Massy Flaharty was born on December 25, 1757, in Frederick, Maryland, his father, John, was 42 and his mother, Hannah, was 42. He married Mary Ridgely in 1785. They had 11 children in 40 years. He died on July 4, 1841, in Ashland, Ohio, having lived a long life of 83 years, and was buried in Perrysville, Ohio."

Dick was born April 18, 1935, in Waterford, Maine to Marguerite H. and Howard S. Millett. He graduated from Carmel High School in 1952, and earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Maine Orono in 1956. He worked in agriculture for nine years before he went on to complete his master's degree from the University of Wyoming in 1970. In 1963, Dick married Thelma M. (Clark) Peters. By 1964, they had moved to Guilford where Dick began his teaching career at Piscataquis Community High School. After teaching in Guilford for 14 years, they moved to Waterford where he taught for 11 years at Jay High School. They returned to Guilford in 1987, where he would finish his teaching career at Foxcroft Academy in 1997. In total, he taught physics for 33 years and was able to initiate 'hands on physics' classes at each school. After retiring from teaching, he continued to work. He enjoyed building and constructing timber frame homes which were often completed in partnership with his stepson, Gerald Peters, whom he considered to be his best friend. He enjoyed traveling whether it was through school or with Thelma or family. He traveled to Russia, the United Kingdom, Spain, and Germany as well as numerous trips throughout the United States and Canada. Dick was very involved in his community. He was a member of the Masons beginning in 1958 and served on local school boards throughout his teaching career. Dick and Thelma were active in the Garland Community Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for 11 years. Dick was predeceased by his wife, Thelma M. Millett, and a grandson, Justin Roy.
