He was born on September 10, 1934 in Orland, the son of Arthur L. and Jennie (Deans) Farnham. He graduated the class of 1952 from Gardner High School in Bucksport. He worked for and retired from Central Maine Power after 38 years of service and was the owner and founder of Orland Electric which was established in 1966. John was a member of many organizations including the Shriner's since June 20, 1970; the Masons for 61 years; and the Grange for 70 years. He is survived by his children, Jerrold and wife, Tammy, Randall and wife, Ginny, Michael and partner, Cheryl, Diane Farnham, Lisa Drake and husband, Gene, Venetia Hunt and husband, Steven, John II and wife, Lynne; along with numerous grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; one brother, Arthur L Farnham and his wife, Elenor, of Tacoma Washington; and one niece, Lorraine and her two children. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a beloved grandson, Derick A. Warren."

A posting in Ancestry.com (not verified) states that Gottfried was b. in Boblingen, Würtenburg. The unverified pedigree in OneWorldTree at Ancestry.com provides the alternate father for him - Hans George Stauch (q.v.; b. 1685 in Beublingen, Würtenburg, m. 1714 Anna Maria _____ [b. 1689]).
