Herts" and "Perhps he married first Katherine _____, daughter of Thomas, Lord Bray; and he married, perhaps secondly, Joan _____, who is said to have been daughter of Thomas Berrie. On 17 Oct 1394 he is recorded as about to go into Ireland in the King's service, with Thomas de Percy, steward of the King's household. By his will of 1424, which is now missing, he left Hide Hall to his son and heir Thomas, subject to the dower of his wife Joan."

He married (2) Annie M. Hamm 22 October 1977. She was born 13 April 1929 in Monroe, Waldo, ME4016, and died 25 June 2000 in Stockton Springs, Waldo, ME." Annie's obituary from the Bangor Daily News: "Stockton Springs - Annie M. (Hamm) Matthews Wardwell, 71, died after a courageous battle with a terminal illness, June 25, 2000. She was born in Monroe, April 13, 1929, the daughter of Cyrus and Daisy (Arbuckle) Hamm. Annie was a homemaker and a CNA. She loved giving and caring for others. She enjoyed cruises and playing cards. Annie will be greatly missed by all whose lives she touched with her ready smile and happy personality. She was predeceased by her first husband, Alvah F. Matthews of Deer Isle and second husband, Richard B. Wardwell of Orland; two sisters, and two brothers, Cecile, Muriel, Carl and Rudolph. She is survived by a son, Daniel Matthews of Belfast; a daughter, 'Trudy' Wilcox of Stockton Springs; her sisters and brothers, Kathleen, Christine, Ethel, Jean, Dorothy, Carlene, Raymond, William and Walter; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews."
