[9390] For extended biography for John, see "Briner Family History," Forrest D. Myers and Jerry A. Clouse (Harrisburg, PA: 1984), pp. 343-4. John served in the PA Volunteers during the War Between the States and took part in the Battle of Petersburg (VA). He was a faithful member of the Reformed Church.
[58665] The unverified file 24RX-WZZ in familysearch.org offers: "When William Leland was born in 1768, in Providence, Providence, Rhode Island, United States, his father, Abner Leland, was 33 and his mother, Sarah Elizabeth Fairweather, was 28. He married Reliance Higgins on 2 March 1793. They were the parents of at least 4 sons and 9 daughters. He died about 1834, at the age of 67."
[61637] This tribute was published instead of an obituary: "You, my love, a poor farm boy from northern Maine, enlisted in the Army at the age of 17 to serve your country and to see the world. Wounded, a year later in Korea, you went on to serve 30 years in the Infantry, earning both high school and college degrees, and retiring as a 1st Sergeant in command of 250 soldiers. A hard worker, a true patriot, a warrior, and the hero of my life story. I hold you in my heart, still, and always. Your fiancee, life partner, lover, friend, Winifred"
