Steinmetz, died yesterday of dropsy, aged 56 years. She was taken sick on her birthday, Sept. 8, and has since been confined to bed at her boarding house, No. 116 North Sixth Street, the home of Mrs. Mary E. Voorhees. Her husband died eight years ago. For the past two years she has resided in Allentown. Mrs. Steinmetz was a daughter of the late Philip Breiner and was born on what is now the David Keck farm in North Whitehall Township. She is survived by an only son, W. E. Steinmetz of this city, and five grandchildren. The funeral will be held at noon from her late home, with services and burial at Miller's Church."

"The Evening Independent [Massillon, Ohio], 18 August 1959," p. 3: "The funeral of Mrs. May Wood Briner, 74, prominent in Canton educational and religious circles, who died Sunday evening in Aultman hospital, in Canton, will be held Wednesday at 3 p. m. in the First Presbyterian church in Canton, where her husband, the Orville W. Briner, is the assistant minister. Interment will be made in North Lawn cemetery, Canton. Mrs. Briner came to Canton in 11919 and began teaching two years later. She taught continuously in Canton schools until 1946. Mrs. Briner organized the sight-saving or conservation vision classes at Wells school. Later classes were held at Belle Stone and Cedar schools where she taught for 20 years. Mrs. Briner attended Otterbein college, Ohio university, the University of Michigan, the University of Cincinnati and Akron and Kent State universities. She was a member of the First Presbyterian church, Ruth Bible Class, Women's association, Canton Sorosis, a charter member of the Ladies Shrine and Northeastern Teachers association, an associate member of the Canton Art institute and a member of Mariam chapter of the Order of Eastern Star. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Briner is survived by two brothers, Sampson A. Wood of St. Petersburg, Fla. and Stanton W. V. Wood of Pittsburgh, and a sister, Miss Margaret P. Wood of Pittsburgh."
