Surviving are the following sons and daughters: Walter Geist and Mrs. Ray Haas, Pitman; Forrest Geist, Rebuck; Mrs. Robert Wolfgang, Klingerstown; Mrs. Lester Reitz, Mrs. Bertha Geist Harry Geist and John Geist all of Leck Kill; three brothers, John, Charles and James Geist, of Williamstown and one sister, Mrs. George Troutman, Port Trevorton. Services will be held Tuesday morning at 10:00 at Leck Hill Reformed Church. Rev. James Beam, pastor, will officiate and Interment will be in the church cemetery."

[53487] "Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine], 15 March 2022: "Presque Isle - Rachel H. Burden, 101, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, March 11, 2022. She was born February 18, 1921, in Chapman, the daughter of Ray and Hazel (Foss) Higgins. Rachel grew up in Mapleton and graduated from Mapleton High School. She then attended and graduated from Aroostook State Normal School with a bachelor's degree in Education. She married Frederick Burden in 1948, and together they would share forty-nine years of marriage until his passing in 1997. Rachel taught school for twenty-six years at York Beach, Machias, Mapleton, Calais, and Presque Isle. She enjoyed playing Scrabble with family members. She also was an author of several books of family history. Rachel loved being around people and enjoyed entertaining friends and family. She was a longtime member at St. John's Episcopal Church in Presque Isle, as well as Mapleton Baptist Church. Rachel was also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma for sixty-one years, the Mayflower Society, and the Haystack Historical Society. She will be remembered as being selfless, optimistic, and devoted to her family. She is survived by three children, Cheryl Martin of Caribou, Kathryn Crowell and her husband, Dave, of Presque Isle and Pennsylvania, Stephen Burden and his wife, Kathy, of New Sweden; grandchildren; Andrew Martin and his wife, Elizabeth, Christopher Martin and his wife, Sara, Joshua Burden and his wife, Jessica, Matthew Burden and his wife, Rachel, Jessica Ciszewski and her husband, Andrew, as well as fifteen great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind a sister, Barbara Higgins; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and her husband, Rachel was predeceased by a son-in-law, James Martin; four brothers, Wallace Higgins, Merle Higgins, Claude Higgins, Irwin Higgins; and two sisters, Priscilla Jones and Mariam Keirstead. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Leisure Village and of Senior Domestics for all of their care and compassion. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday, March 17, 2022, at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle. A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, March 18, at Mapleton Baptist Church, with her grandson, the Rev. Joshua Burden officiating."

He had been in ill health the past two years, although he was bedfast only a week. Death was due to diabetes. Mr. Welker was a son of the late Daniel and Sarah (Faust) Welker and was born in Lykens Township, September 27, 1862. He was confirmed a member of the Gratz Reformed Church and was united in marriage to Adaline E. Umholtz by the late Rev. W. G. Engle. Mrs. Welker passed away a number of years ago. He is survived by four sons and eight daughters: John Welker, Lykens R. D.; Charles Welker, Elizabethville R. D.; Harry Welker, Gratz and Edward Welker, Steelton; Mrs. Albert Klock, Gratz; Mrs. Edwin Hartman, Gratz; Mrs. German Daniel, Lykens R. D.; Mrs. Francis Scheib, Lykens R. D.; Mrs. Charles Hess, Halifax R. D.; Mrs. Elias Bowers, Millersburg R. D.; Mrs. Norman Sitlingegr, Gratz and Mrs. Ira Mausser, Elizabethville R. D. Other survivors are a sister, Mrs. Adaline Miller, thirty-five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Mr. Welker was a lifetime resident of the Gratz community where he had engaged in farming for many years."
