[27781] The line shown here is NOT VERIFIED; it is presented as found on Ray Gurganus' web site, www.gurganus.org, in 2007.
[900] The unverified LDS Church Ancestral File GJ26-2X states John is son of Thomas Harris of Hatherup, Gloucestershire and Elizabeth Hills. Ancestry.com offers: "Harris Name Meaning - English and Welsh (very common in southern England and South Wales): patronymic from the medieval English personal name Harry, pet form of Henry. This name is also well established in Ireland, taken there principally during the Plantation of Ulster. In some cases, particularly in families coming from County Mayo, both Harris and Harrison can be Anglicized forms of Gaelic Ó hEarchadha."
