[2693] Matilda "was starved to death in a dungeon with her eldest son" {per report in "Some Early English Pedigrees," Vernon M. Norr (Arlington, VA, typescript, 1968, p. 34, used at Library of Congress, 7/89)} Doug Thompson (see http://freespace.virgin.net/doug.thompson/BraoseWeb/index1.htm) posted on RootsWeb.com 4 Dec 1999: "The name 'Lady of La Haie' for Maud refers to her connections with the town of Hay on Wye rather than the family of La Haie. There is a full discussion of the St Valery family in The Genealogist (NS) vol 30 pp1 - 17. It is indicated there that Matilda is sister to Bernard (IV) de St V. and Walter (II) de St V., all of them children of Reginald (II) de St V. (Though some say she may be daughter of Bernard rather than sister.) There's an explanation here for the introduction of the name Reginald into the Braose family (her son)."

[4665] The 1880 census found Thomas in Halem, Cook Co., IL where he was a "Clerk of Dry Goods". With him in his household were wife Anna (age 38, b. in IN as were her parents), and children Nellie (22), Eva (20), Harry (17, a tinsmith), Lydia (16), Frank (6) and Flora (3) - all children b. in IN except the youngest two b. in IL. The census taker wrote that Thomas' parents were b. in NY - a mistake in writing or transcribing - but the census records Thomas b. in OH and age 48!
