[6017] See "Brackett Genealogy, Descendants of Anthony Brackett of Portsmouth and Captain Richard Brackett of Braintree. With Biographies of the Immigrant Fathers, Their Sons, and Others of Their Posterity," Herbert Ierson Brackett (1907). Chapter V. Anthony (Jr.) was at Falmouth (now Portland) in 1660, selectman in 1680, assemblyman in 1681 and 1682. He m. (1) Anne Mitton (d. Sandy Beach, NH ca. 1677) and (2) Susannah Drake 19 Nov 1678 (she d. Nov 1719). "History of Portland," by William Willis (1833), includes an account of him and family escaping from the Indians in a stolen birch bark canoe which had been mended by his wife, Ann Mitten. "King Philip's War," Eric C. Schultz and Michael J. Tougias (Woodstock, VT: The Countryman Press, 1999), p. 304 offers: "On August 11,1676 . . . the home of Anthony Brackett on the west side of the Back Cove was assaulted, with Brackett, his wife, and five children carried into captivity. . . . Brackett's home was located on Cleve's Nek, now the downtown area of Portland." Family Tree Maker's "Early New England Settlers" (CD #504) reports "He was lieutenant and captain in the war, and was finally killed at his house 21 Sep. 1689. His son Anthony was also lieutenant and captain in Indian hostilities." [6639] "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine], 19 November 2025: "Bucksport, Maine - Marilyn Marks Jewett, 95, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on November 13, 2025. She was born in Castine (during a parade) to Olive Connor Marks and Marshal Marks on May 30, 1930. She grew up with her younger sister, Jackie, in South Orland (known locally as 'Hardscrabble'). Both she and her sister attended a one room schoolhouse on Crane's Corner for 8 years. After high school in South Portland and Bucksport, Marilyn graduated in 1947 and went directly to work in the Bucksport paper mill (St. Regis Paper Company) in the clerical pool at 17 years old. A year or so later she met the love of her life, the handsome, young veteran, Ralph "Ralphie" Jewett just back from his tour of duty in the Philippines. He spotted her while working at Cropley and Jewett, pumping gas. They were married in Camden in 1949 and moved to Orono (UMO), where he used his GI Bill benefits to enroll and study education. While there, their first two children, Jeanne and Jon, were born. We believe it was during this time that Marilyn earned her nickname, 'Minnie.' It stuck throughout the rest of her life with her family and close friends. From Orono and UMO, they moved to Stonington for a teaching job. They rented an apartment over the grocery store on Main Street. It was tight for a family of four on a beginning teacher's meager salary, but Marilyn, who always handled the family finances, made it work. Life was joyous, and they became this extraordinarily magnetic couple that attracted lifelong friends at every turn. Throughout their 70 years together, till his death in 2019, their social calendar was full. Even though he was a somewhat reserved, yet very interesting man, Marilyn more than made up for that as the person everyone would want to spend an afternoon or evening with; interesting, curious, a great conversationalist, beautiful, and fun at every moment. In 1958 their youngest child Lisa was born. Over the next few years Marilyn remained home raising their 3 children, and when Lisa was 9, went back to work in the paper mill as a secretary. At the time this was not the norm, and, in many respects, Marilyn was a trailblazer for women in the workplace. She retired as a senior executive assistant. Along the way she raised her children and maintained an active social life with a multitude of friends and greater family. She found immense joy in creating a beautiful and nurturing home for her family and passed this love of home and cooking on to her children and grandchildren. After her retirement from the mill, she traveled the world with her daughters, grandchildren, and friends. She was an active member of the Bucksport Garden Club and her rug hooking group, 'The Happy Hookers.' She was a lifelong, member of Elm Street Congregational Church and the Alamoosook Lake Association. For years she and Ralph owned, operated, and lived summers at 'Hazelwood' their first camp on Alamoosook Lake. Again, they were trailblazing by being an Airbnb before Airbnb with "Hazelwood's" cottages "Piney Home," "Woodpecker," and "Marwood' After many wonderful summers, they sold 'Hazelwood' and bought the 'Prop,' a classic 1930s camp up the lake, where they hosted a great number of family gatherings and social events. Their costume and themed parties were legendary across the lake and beyond. The house on Bridge Street became a daily stop for her grandchildren after school, where she became a confidant and cheerleader for their busy lives, watching them grow and thrive. She was an involved grandparent ever present and as fun-loving as any of them, always ready to celebrate or meet new people. Whether it was at Bridge Street, Lisa's in Camden, the farm on Verona Island or the camp, she was one of them and continued to be so as they grew and made their own ways in the world. As her daughters looked through her things after her passing, they found a small piece of paper where Minnie had written: 'I've seen the Sistine Chapel, twice. I've seen the Pope, twice. I shook hands with JFK in Orono one month before he was assassinated. I saw the largest Budda in the world in Nara, Japan. But my biggest joy and thrill was going to Martha Stewart's home, 'Skylands' in Seal Harbor. Iced tea and lemon cookies on the patio!!! The recipe handed to me by Martha herself. Simple pleasure!!' In her later years as her dementia progressed, she received incredible loving care from all three of her children and some very special people. The family would like to thank Heather, Gail, and Stormi for their caring service to Minnie. The late Denise Davis was the perfect companion and friend at the onset of the disease, a true professional who befriended Minnie and made her life full and bright. They shared many good times together. Then for her last 3 years, the tough ones, our true angel on earth, Cindy Goodwin, came into Minnie's and our lives. She is a remarkably, kind, loving and capable individual who gave so much to make those final years in her home a blessing for her and her family. And finally, in her last weeks the nurses and personnel from CHCS Hospice were extraordinary in the care and peace they brought to her and the rest of our family. Truly amazing people. We will be forever grateful to all of them. She is survived by her three children: her son, Jon from Bucksport, ME, her daughter, Lisa and her son Emerson from Camden, ME, and her daughter, Jeanne and husband, Ron, from Verona Island, ME, and their children: son, Todd and his wife, Jessica, and their son, Louie from Portland, ME; daughter, Carrie and her husband, Adam and their children, Rose, Sidney, and June from Weston, MA; son, Sam and his partner, Alyssa, and their children, Hazel and River from Brooklyn, NY; and daughter, Abby and her husband, Brian, and their children, Lucy and Isla from Santa Barbara, CA. Marilyn 'Minnie' was beloved in the most expansive sense of the word. She loved life to the fullest with curiosity, love, adventure, sacrifice, and genuineness that is all too rare these days. Despite her last few years with dementia, she brightened to each new face with that same wonder she always possessed. We will always remember our Minnie fondly with a smile and love."
