[55377] "The Ellsworth American [Ellsworth, Maine]," 27 December 2023: "Seal Cove - Lucille E. (Leighton) Kelley, died peacefully, at age 94, surrounded by love from near and far, on Dec. 20, 2023. She was born in Bar Harbor on Dec. 10, 1929, the daughter of Alfred Leighton, Sr., and Doris (Linscott) Leighton. She attended Bar Harbor High School, Cherryfield Academy, and Ellsworth High School, and was the only student in her 8th grade class in Northport, graduating as the valedictorian. Lucy worked hard all of her life, and while raising her family, she worked at many restaurants as well as the Jackson Laboratory. She eventually found nursing, a career she truly loved, and worked at MDI Hospital for many years, eventually finding a home at Medical Associates, now Cooper Gilmore Health Center. She took time off from her career to care for her beloved daughter Lori Jo, later returning to work and eventually retiring at the age of 78. Lucy was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and Old Old Grandma. She felt honored to be known as 'Mama Lucy' by many of her friends, childrens friends, and many of her co-workers. Lucy loved animals (even mice), crossword puzzles, music of all kinds, and dancing. She also was a faithful member of the Eden Baptist Church in Salsbury Cove. Lucy is survived by her children Sharyn K. Farrin, of Ellsworth and Dennis Kelley and wife Ellen, of Tremont; four granddaughters - Kelley Paul and husband David, Heidi Davis and husband Tim, Stacey Herrick and husband Toby, and Abby Kelley; great-granddaughters Farrin, Lydia and Autumn Paul, Allison Cameron and Mackenzie Jackson, Anna Herrick; great-grandson Andrew Herrick; great-great-grandchildren Adam and Carson Jackson; two nieces, Geneva Jones of Belfast and Patricia Hubbard; sisters-in-law Marilyn Blaisdell and Karen Kelley; brothers-in-law Jack Kelley and his wife Marty, Richard Kelley and his partner Dorothy; and so many special friends - too many to mention. Lucy was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Walter Kelley, Jr.; her beloved daughter, Lori Jo; her only sibling, Alfred 'Sonny' Leighton, Jr.; two nieces, Arlene and Gloria Leighton; two nephews, Kenneth Leighton and Bruce Leighton; in-laws David and Joyce Kelley, Jill Kelley and Rexford Kelley; and son-in-law Bruce Farrin."
